Dean's OBP isnt bad.
He's near the top of the NCAA's in walks.
That's because he was being respected a lot to start out. Now, not so much. He has 5 strikeouts and 1 walk since the start of the UK series to now (last 4 games).

he's been our best hitter 2 years running..you dont take him out of the lineup. He'll come through
Helenhi has sucked for a while...you do take him out of the lineup

Thats great that he is but I think it suffices to say that he isn't living up to anyone's expectations this season, however unrealistic they might have been.
I don't understand the dilike for Helenihi. He's got a great arm. Yeah, he hasn't hit well this year but your suggestion would be to bench him? That makes sense! Let's take out a guy who isn't seeing the ball well right now and sit him down so he won't see any live pitching! Genius!!

Derek, you arent just NOT seeing the ball right now....It's been about the last 50 games.
I dont care how good your arm is

no doubt about that. but to compare him to DH is going a little overboard.

Since we started our most important games? Yes.
He's 2 for 12, 5 SO and 1 BB

Helenihi has easily been our weakest hitter. And he was bad the last half of the year last year. It's doubtful that he is going to come around like a lot of people suggest.

O I agree. DH hasn't lived up to expectations for a season and a half now. However, I just don't think we have anyone to replace his defensive abilities. I also disagree with the idea of putting a slumping hitter on the bench. I believe, confidence wise, it helps for them to work through the slump against live pitching. Cause if you know you can do it in a game, you won't worry about anymore. Doesn't work that way with BP

including the game winner last night.

So take the guy out with the better average and much better defense because he slumped at the end of last year...but Dean is allowed to slump his way into oblivion with no consequence because he has done well previous to this year?
Perfect sense.

That was Gibbs.

I agree. I just think you can't replace his defensive abilities or PM would've put him on the bench by now.

Uhhh yeah. Do you watch baseball?
Does Albert Pujols get benched when he slumps? no
Does So Taguchi get benched when he slumps? you better believe t.
Helenihi hasnt hit since midseason last year. He has 1 extra base hit in 44 ABs. ONE! shite, Chris McGhee has 4 2B's in 22 ABS. Nick Pontiff has 2 HRs in 16 ABS
He has the worst OPS of anyone on the team with 30 or more ABs. He is easily the worst hitter and player the other team worries least about.

Helenihi
He pinch ran for Dean.

when the hitter in the slump is the BA #2 outfielder in the nation, yes. you leave him in and your ride that horse.

uhhhh he plays RF. Not exactly a prime def position. Pretty easy to replace.
If he were a SOPH or JR he would already be on the bench
