It's not incorrect form for a clean. Just incorrect to call it a power clean. a common mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

There's different versions, but I believe a "full olympic style clean" is when the lifter raises the bar above his head. Maybe our video cut off and Neal did this?

I'll let the meatheads argue over what to call it, but a record is a record.

Neal has always had unreal strength for his size and he finally translated it to the football field last season. I expect another big year out of him!

That's not a power clean. You don't break parallel on a power clean.

That is a full squat clean. And damn impressive either way.

You can apologize to that man now

You realize that once the weight gets so heavy that you have no choice to drop underneath it and catch it in squat position.

Yea, and at that point it isn't a power clean.

A power clean, you "power" the bar up to the rack position into the power position without going into a squat.

Power clean form

As someone who just attended an Olympic Weightlifting coaching clinic conducted by Coach Gale Hatch, Tommy Moffit's mentor, and former national champion and Olympian Matt Bruce, I will inform you that the image you posted is bullshite according to the USA Weightlifting federation.

Proper Power Clean Form

boxcar willie is indeed correct.

The primary stipulations for a true power clean are as follows:
1) The lifter must place a clean grip on the bar
2) The lifter must begin the pull from the floor
3) The lifter must finish the lift in the power position (vertical torso with slight leg extension) and the bar placed in the rack position

Power refers to the power position before the actual clean

No. That would be the clean and jerk or a clean and press. The clean is just the motion Neal performed.

boxcar is 100% right. I would contend that you are indeed someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.

Neal's feat of strength is not to be diminished, but if we're arguing proper terminology and semantics then that was not a true power clean. Neal clearly descended into a full squat upon receiving the bar in the rack position.

With that being said, Neal is one bad motherfricker.

Eric Andolsek power cleaned 415 in 1987. Maybe they don't recognize the past but it happened. Sorry Lewis.

Impressive. For comparison, here's Dmitry Klokov (an Olympic medalist) cleaning 475 lbs. Skip to the 1:00 mark

The power position is the one you receive the bar in. After the clean
