Lord knows we're due for a guy like this. We have too much going for us as a program to not have it.

Les Miles was a great hirer and motivator. But that’s about it. He was unintelligent and stubborn. Held us back for a long time. It’s a miracle we got a chance to play for a nc in 2007. 2011 was his best team and he didn’t win it because of his stubbornness. Or at least destroyed any chance to win.

We don't need to prop him up, his win total and win percentage here rank him near the top in LSU history. We certainly don't need to compare him to a loser like 0 that had no clue what he was doing.

Mediocre doesn't have the sustained success he had during the golden era of the SEC. He should have won more, there is no question. He was stubborn, there is no question. His results here were not mediocre.

His results were a reflection of his talent imo. Which has proven to be easy to get at lsu.

But yes. His results are elite I will not argue there.

Did I just imagine us having trouble filling out a roster these last two years after a national championship?

No. And that’s what a poor coach gets you. No doubt. But Ed actually did very good getting talent overall. Just late he was basically non existent.

Did he though if we barely could field a team for 40% of his tenure? Some of the position groups were comically bare.

Regardless, building the roster is a huge part of what a college coach does. So again, Les had some shortcomings, but overall he cannot be called mediocre based on what he accomplished on the field here.

Miles was lucky to be in the right place at the right time. His tenure at Kansas proved that.

You can't succeed as long as Les did here simply on luck. You just can't. Trying to compare success at LSU with success at Kansas is possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read here.

That's the point, isn't it. You can't say he was a good coach based on what he did with the LSU program, especially when you consider what he did with the Kansas program.

I absolutely can. He was a good coach here that underachieved and stayed longer than he should have.

has nothing to do with what he did here.

Les was decent at best. He was consistent. You knew what you were gonna get. It’s good for stability but when you have Saban in your division, you gotta step it up. He seemed too comfortable.

Not to sound cliche but hypothetically speaking if the dynasty isn’t going hot at Bama, Les wins at least 1 more championship and retires a tiger at a very old age like Bowden.

So he was a better coach here than at Kansas? Explain.

Yeah that Natty sux all right.
Gene Chizik has a natty. So does Larry Coker.

One natty doesn't absolve a coach from multiple other years of underachievement.

You may have recently read about a coach who won a natty but then was fired two years later for letting the program implode.

Without question, the most important position in college sports is the QB position. A great QB can lead a mediocre team to immense success. A mediocre QB cannot be successful without an amazing team. And like every college football head coach, Miles' success highly correlated to his recruiting success at QB.

Miles was a tremendous recruiter; however, he was cursed with poor recruiting at the QB position:

2005 Ryan Perrilloux 5* D1
2006 Alex Cate 4* P9
2007 Jarrett Lee 4* P10
2007 Andrew Hatch U
2008 Jordan Jefferson 4* P11
2009 Chris Garrett 3* P19
2009 Russell Shepard 5* D1
2010 Zach Lee 3* P21
2011 Zach Mettenberger 4* P4
2011 Jerrard Randall 4* D8
2011 Stephen Rivers 3* P18
2012 Gunner Kiel 5* P1
2012 Jeremy Liggins 4* A20
2012 Rob Bolden 4* D3
2013 Anthony Jennings 4* P14
2013 Hayden Rettig 4* P9
2014 Brandon Harris 4* D3
2015 Danny Etling 4* P17
2015 Justin McMillan 3* D35
2016 Feleipe Franks 4* P5
2016 Shea Patterson 5* P1
2016 Lindsey Scott 3* D26

Louisiana was not a hotbed for high school QBs while Miles was at LSU. Only three QBs were in the top ten of Louisiana recruits. Miles landed all three; however, they did not live up to expectations.

Miles had several highly rated QBs commit to LSU who never never played at LSU. LSU did not sign a QB in 2006 and 2010. Only four QBs finished their career at LSU.

It was like we were playing in a high school playoff game with teams from the same district, he actually believed he could give Saban 2 months to stew over that shite and Saban would come back with the same game plan. Hard Hard HARD HEADED

He was a better roster builder than Ed yes. Better maintainer. It fell off a lot after 2011, but yes. Still far better than Ed.
