Lee's Progression

I know there's already a lot of threads out there on the QB situation, but I've been noticing that most of the arguements have people saying that JL will be good one day. I hope I'm not starting another thread war on here, but I would like to know what people have seen in Lee to think that. So far for me, the best progress I've seen him make this year is his ability to throw on the run. That seems like a strong point that he could build on to get better.

He reads defenses much better than he used to. Before, he just wouldn't see the defenders. Now, he sees them, and makes the right decision, but just throws in the wrong place.
Remember, this guy didn't even start for LSU until after the Auburn game. His performance against Appy State was one of the worst things I've ever witnessed, but he has gotten better.
People who emphasize the pick 6's are just being juvenile. Unless you're just lobbing up balls in the flats (which he only did against Auburn), a lot of whether an INT will actually get returned for a TD is just plain random. You couldn't even do it on purpose deep down the field if you wanted to. People need to chill out.

the speed of the action is the killer. He can't see it fast enough. In all the fast conferences all the new kids on the block seem to have this problem.
That's why we expect he'll get better. With more experience the game seems to slow down. It's hard for us amateurs to imagine how fast it's going on down on the field.
of course, some guys never catch up - but IMO Lee will by next year.

It seems like some people think there should be a steady game by game progress for the kid. But that's generally not how it works. In the beginning of any learning experience, you'll see a combination of progress and regression. Like when I was learning how to play guitar. After a few weeks I could play maybe 25 chords (progress), but I still had problems doing smooth changes on a number of them, including ones I'd practiced on for weeks (regression). It took several months before I got fairly proficient at what I wanted to do, and now I play like Eric Clapton.
Ah—forget about the Clapton part. But the point is you don't always make steady A to B to C progress when you're learning something. That's why I'd give the kid till next season to see where he's at in terms of development. One thing I will say is, anyone who makes some of the TD throws he's made (Auburn, USC, Bama) definitely has ability. Those 4 or 5 passes alone were as good as any QB in the country could make.

I'm hoping Lee follows this trend, but it seems like he still feels way too rushed. He does have a lot of pressure on him, but even when he doesn't, it seems like he throws the ball away too fast. I had hoped by this point in the season, he would be a little more comfortable behind center, but some people do progress slower than others and there's always the chance he just needs a little more time.

i liked the guitar metaphor. In fact, i started playing bass guitar June of 07. I get to play with the church band. And that's my point about speed - it's one thing to do it in practice - the speed doing it live is another. Things happen very fast, but, hey, after enough experience, it seems to slow down. And you are right - progress happens in major steps - I practice 1-2 hours a day and then after a month or two, ouila! I take a big step ahead. It is not gradual.

Maybe you would. but the nformation would be largely irrelevant, if not totally useless. What you really would like to know is what the coaches have seen that lead them to believe that. They are the professionals with the ability to identify talent, teach and differentiate between problems born of inexperience and those born of inability. The opinions of the people here, while amusing, are surely unimportant and probably wrong.

could u give an example. the last pick vs bama shows to me he hasnt gotten better at reading defenses. LaFell was blanketed by 2 guys while Byrd is streaking across the middle one on one. he doesnt know how to look off a defender and go to his second option.

out of all the games that is the one you view as his worst.
Not the Georgia game where it is debatable that he lost that game on his own and the Bama game isnt even in question that with just a mediocre QB we would have won.
Stats make a strong argument that Lee is the worst QB out of all the top 25 teams.

Not really, it seems like every arguement on here continues with JJ is the future or JL will eventually be great. Just curious if the people who throw out that line about JL have actual reason to think that or if they're just saying it to be stubborn. If anything I hope I can people to analyze his play instead of just sticking to the same arguement of "he will be great".
anyway, i was just curious to see if someone else noticed something in particular that i didn't

keep in mind he is a RS freshman. What did you really expect him to do this year in this tough arse conference? We all knew we would lose 3 games this year due to the qb issue. And by "we" I mean reasonable fans.

He has a fantastic release on the ball and a pretty spiral. Throwing motion is fluid and lightning fast. He is capable of putting the ball just about anywhere (except arm strength is good not great).
Still has to show he's capable of making good decisions or improvising when play breaks down. Needs to stop locking on recievers and be able to either check down or throw ball away when the play isn't there. This should come with experience. How quickly it comes depends on his football instincts (that's the big unknown).
He's got the physical tools and mechanics to be very good and even play next level.

There are sadly only a few passes that show how good he can be, but the most impressive one to me was the TD pass to Mitchell against AU. AU has a safety blitz coming almost untouched so JL has little time. In that time, he pump fakes 3 times (sadly while staring down the reciever), then just when you think he'll be eating dirt he throws the ball 45 yards to the only spot Mitchell can catch it. That ball went from in front of his chest to out of his hands in a fraction of a second. Plus he did this while staring down an SEC style big hit.
Great stuff. He's got potential.

why is this always the response when somebody criticizes Lee?
I get it, he's a RSFR. U do know that there have been Freshman that have played good before.
I said at the beginning of the year a 3 loss season wouldnt be that bad, and i keep telling my friends that its only one more loss than last year.
But our QB has been terrible. and i want to rant about it.

FYI, the first option on that play is the quick out at the sticks.
The second option is the downfield flag route that he threw into.
The third option was the WR (Byrd I guess) who was running a post from the left side of the field.

You seem to be unable to differentiate between a QB's play right now and his potential play down the road.

was already typing by the time u responded.
But the pass u were talking about was a nice throw. the pass to byrd vs bama was a nice throw.
im not saying he doesnt make some nice throws from time to time, he does.
but ive seen plenty of guys make those throws, doesnt mean he going to be great someday
