Dale Brown is a legend because he was a great recruiter and motivator, but he left the coaching up to his great assistants. JJ is a great recruiter and motivator but has Dale Brown's technical skills. He needs to bring in a genius "coach" and next year we can be in the Final Four. Dale knew his weaknesses and brought in coaches, Johnny needs to recognize that he doesn't know the game as well as he should and step aside during the game. LSU will be just fine after that.

When JJ gets us to a couple of Final 4s and wins 4 SEC titles and gives Uk fits for 15+ years and schedules huge games against big time ooc teams and wins many of them...then I might agree

IE don't mention them in the same sentence

Pretty sure Dale had ten times more success than Jones has had thus far.

Not sure if this is a misspelling due to your North-of- I10 locale or brilliant Cajun, Homerism.

IMHO they are very different in style and substance, but the end results seem similar. They seem to do their better coaching jobs with their least talented teams.

To be fair to Johnny, small sample size thus far.

Without the motivational ability. Dale's teams truly believed they could defeat anyone on any given day. That was his gift. JJ seems to understand what the problems are (if his postgame interviews are any indication) but yet we see them repeated every game. Something has to be done and quickly.

Meh. when he defeated West Virginia a few weeks ago everyone was saying he was a great coach. Then with the loss today he is an aweful coach. The up and down swings of emotion on this board are unreasonable and not logical. He is a great recruiter and as good a coach as any in the SEC.

The WV game was probably the best he has coached because he was psyched up, psyching the players up and getting after the refs. He remains too laid back on the bench.

Why do we need to excuse poor coaching and hope for a change. Yes, we have more talent to watch, but no proper utilization of the talent.

Will we bemoaning our fate next year with more talent coming our way.

God, it would be nice to have a coach that we knew had the ability to make a difference. I'm not sure we have this in any major sport.

Great recruiter, but come on... I know the SEC doesn't have that many great coaches, but he's not on Donovan, Calipari and Pearl's level yet.

Eventually, yes. Dale had three losing seasons in a row in his second, third and fourth seasons at LSU. Took him a long time to build up to success. Different era, but still, let's not act like Dale was an overnight success, either.

I wish people would stop saying this. Dale Brown went to 2 Final Fours. Johnny Jones is Dale Brown if Dale Brown had too much to drink the night before and feel asleep on the bench

WVU was one of the only teams on LSU's schedule that wanted to run more than LSU. That style played right in to Jones and LSU's style. It was nothing more than a playground game that LSU was able to pull out. Same with UMass. Go look at every team LSU has played that slows down the tempo. LSU is lost.

He is about to "match wits" with two of the better coaches in the SEC this week. The difference between them will be stark.

Dale was much better then Jones. Much better, or else he had better assistant coaches on the bench. Jones is equal to Trent with better talent.

That's true, but LSU didn't even get into the tourney with Pistol Pete before Brown. They hadn't been to the NCAA tournament in 18 years when Brown arrived. So there wasn't much talent.
