2008 was only his second in the league also. i agree, in no way was he performing at an elite nfl level, but using his first season as starter and comparing it to a bunch of other 1st and 2nd year starters' seasons (among others) isn't exactly a compelling arguing point, not to mention you named more than 1/3 of the Qbs in the league, including 4 former pro bowlers (Luck this season). Not saying I don't agree with your overall premise, but the evidence you used to reinforce your point isn't very convincing IMO.

Why not? I mean hes being proclaimed by so called LSU fans as the biggest bust of all time yet his qb rating is higher than Lucks Wheedens right at vicks (threw less INTS and more TDS), sanchez Hennes and Cassells.

Also problem children like Leaf Jeff George Vick Pac Man jones get second shots but Jamarcus? One shot and done. In that one shot he wasnt entirely horrible either. Also during that one shot he was diagnosed with sleep apnea which would explain part of his so called laziness (falling asleep in meetings etc.)

Dont understand how people want to shite on the dude. Heres Leaf's first year starting stats

Leaf threw two touchdown passes and fifteen interceptions, passing for 1,289 yards and having a 45.3 percent completion rate, with a poor quarterback rating of 39. Yet not one not two but three teams picked him up after the chargers. Jamarcus got out of shape but the dude (based on others) deserves another shot.

Judging by his weight, ol' J-Marcus's money is the only thing running.

He can throw far, ok, but he can't hit a receiver. I just don't see this happening.

So you must be a Flynn was by far better than Russell person. I don't understand how you say he couldn't hit a reciever. These stats tend to prove you wrong.

Russell 06
Pct: 67.8
Yds: 3129
Eff: 167.03

Flynn 07
Pct: 56.3
Yds: 2407
Eff: 125.76

People forget that his head coach at the critical developmental part of his career was Lane fricking Kiffin.
The most immature coach I've ever seen that has 15 player brawls in the lockerroom after Bowl games. Not exactly an ideal situation for Jamarcus or anyone.

Great point! How that arrogant loser has coached the Raiders, Tennessee, and USC in his young life is one of the mysteries of the universe, IMO.

Someone referenced Matt Flynn--anyone thinking of bringing in Russell seriously should look at Flynn first.

All this reminded me of a parody magazine cover put out by the Onion a while back...

First: Oakland was the worse place JR could have gone in the NFL. There was no stability there, and many of rookie QB's would have ended their careers in such a place.

How about comparing Indy, last year and this, with Oakland the year prior to JR and after he arrived.

Both JR and Luck were number 1 draft picks with proclamations of a talent level not seen prior to their entering the league.
JR did nothing to indicate he was capable of becoming an NFL player. Name one ex player or coach that thinks JR can play in the NFL.

If you were a HC and had the opportunity, would you select JR, RP, or Flynn for your QB next season. I would select Jarrett Lee over JR as an NFL prospect. He may not have the talent but he would learn the system. We have seen the results of out of this world talent coupled with no work ethic.

they had a ton of injuries. They had won their division almost every year before that one with 9 straight playoff appearances. They also have a mandatory pay scale for rookies these days so that teams and players can't have silly holdouts

well he has a few that he's training with, including hall of famers

That isn't really the question. Absolutely no risk of bringing JR in for a tryout or preseason. Flynn is under contract for 7+ million next year, RP is a league minimum QB who is also under contract. Lee hasn't shown the talent at any level to make a NFL roster. I'm sure he'll get try outs and play preseason too

"He'll be perfect for the read option. Hand the ball to the RB then block the opposing Teams whole D-Line."

I saw this and laughed, but really I hope the best for JR.

People really are over-exaggerating the weight issue in my opinion.

#1. He's a tall 6'6", and has a big arse frame.

#2. You can be a little out of shape, have a beer gut, and still be a successful NFL QB.

It's obviously better to be in tip-top shape all things being equal, but JR at 6'6" and 285 lbs. wouldn't be all that weird, and at his size, he could probably sweat about 15 lbs. off in one hard practice. Which is not the same thing as legitimately losing the weight, I know, but just sayin'...

Damn!! Maybe I am.

That does have a 2011 date on it.

If he's at 305 now, then I think that's not too bad.

Like somebody alluded to earlier, it seems as though he's already lost a good bit of weight to get down to 305.

If people don't want to accept that JaMarcus went to the worst possible place he could have gone which was also the worst run organization in the NFL, then they have to believe that Jimbo Fisher is the most amazing coach and motivator in the history of football.

Dude was screwed as soon as the Raiders picked him.

Go JR! I am not one who drank the (purple) Kool-Aid when he was coming out of college, but his physical gifts alone should make him AT LEAST a viable backup in the NFL if can really commit himself to the challenge. I think he owes it to himself to try and I am really glad to see that he is. the young man is 27 and has plenty of time to make it. Best of luck to the big fella and

You willing to compare Chuck Pagano and Jim Irsay to Lane Kiffin and Al Davis?

the Raiders were far from ideal, but he could have put more work into his craft and never been in a position where he had to worry about attempting a comeback.

When a team practices all week, installs the offense, and when the first play is called, JR ran the wrong play.
Callahan could have been the coach but if a quarterback can't call the first play correctly.

I hope that I am wrong and JR gets dedicated and becomes a success that would make his Uncle that was his mentor proud. I wouldn't bet on it though.
