Russell’s mentor through this whole process is former NFL wide receiver Mike Clayton, who like Russell is a LSU product.

Didn't Clayton have an alcohol problem that pretty much killed his career?

he supposedly has $25 million saved up and what he has been spending has been towards charity in the mobile area.

If he were to sign with a team, that contract would be negligible to him

I think he can do it. Wish he would have started a year ago. Should have been watching film and basically anything football related.

First I've heard of that. I thought he had back problems.

Has surrounded himself with a nice cast of characters!!!

People forget that Russell has already proved that he can be an NFL quarterback at an elite level even when he was out of shape and didn't care about the game.

He's what, 27 now? Him making it back in the NFL really isn't as big of a longshot as people seem to think. I mean, I'd still say his chances of making a team roster are well under 50%, but there's no reason why he can't do it. It's really not THAT hard to get yourself into peak shape at that age, especially if maturity and discipline were the thing holding you back before.

It does, however, seem like he just wants/needs the money, so I seriously doubt that he ever becomes a #1 starter anywhere. I'd put those chances at well under 10%.

I'm known as being kind of anti-JR around here, because I hate the way some people worship talent and insist he was some great college QB, usually as a means of trying to show everyone they are superior to a white redneck fanbase or whatever.

There's a lot of unfortunate racism and reverse racism that goes along with any of these debates. But despite my consistently calling JR fans out for their latent homo idiocy in thinking he was the greatest LSU football player ever, I really do hope he makes it back in the NFL for a couple of years, just to give himself the confidence that he can do it.

I don't think he'll ever love football, but being able to come back and conquer some old demons and do something he might not enjoy doing absolutely will help this guy be happier with himself in later life. If he can do it...

I'm pretty pro-Jamarcus, but I don't ever remember him showing himself to be an NFL QB at an elite level. I think over that first season as a starter he showed himself to have some promise on the field, but nothing I'd call elite.

really hoping he puts it all together and makes it, but I'm highly skeptical to say the least.

Elite Level = Performing in NFL
NFL QB = 2008 season, while not great it was equivalent to a Sanchez/Gabbert/Locker/hell maybe even Ponder type season

53.8% complete, 13 TD, 8 INT, 2423 Yards, and a 77.1 QB Rating

That QB Rating this season would have put him with a similar rating as Luck, Tannehill, Gabbert, Vick, Foles, Stafford, Locker, Weeden, Henne, Sanchez, or Cassell

He's the biggest bust in NFL history behind Ryan Leaf. I don't think anyone is giving him undue grief. If he would have just at least cared, I think people would have his back more.
