Except for wearing a massive BAMA necklace while being interviewed on national television for the NC against Ohio State. Never understood that (don't care if it was to promote some clothing line bullshite).

Elite Level = Performing in NFL
NFL QB = 2008 season, while not great it was equivalent to a Sanchez/Gabbert/Locker/hell maybe even Ponder type season

53.8% complete, 13 TD, 8 INT, 2423 Yards, and a 77.1 QB Rating

That QB Rating this season would have put him with a similar rating as Luck, Tannehill, Gabbert, Vick, Foles, Stafford, Locker, Weeden, Henne, Sanchez, or Cassell

2008 was only his second in the league also. i agree, in no way was he performing at an elite nfl level, but using his first season as starter and comparing it to a bunch of other 1st and 2nd year starters' seasons (among others) isn't exactly a compelling arguing point, not to mention you named more than 1/3 of the Qbs in the league, including 4 former pro bowlers (Luck this season). Not saying I don't agree with your overall premise, but the evidence you used to reinforce your point isn't very convincing IMO.

With that said, Russell has always had the talent to be an elite QB, but he's never in his life had the drive to be an elite QB on any level. He was so much more talented than everyone else in college that he got away with a ton of terrible decisions. he out talented people in college. Once he got to the NFL, he couldn't be that guy he was in 2006 on talent alone. I wish him the best, but I won't hold my breath for him to actually put forth the effort to 1) stay in shape and 2) actually learn how to play the QB position and reading defenses.

First: Oakland was the worse place JR could have gone in the NFL. There was no stability there, and many of rookie QB's would have ended their careers in such a place. JR just had about $40 million to fall back on. How many of you would be worth a damn if you were in a situation where the coaching and ownership were so f'd up, and you were financially set for life?

All the luck to JR and his attempt to come back.

professionals who take pride in their jobs. yes, the raiders was an awful situation for him, but he's just as much to blame. if he had treated his job like professional QBs do, other teams (including his own) would have recognized this, and he'd still be in the league. QBs in worse situations than he and with far less talent have survived in this league because they have pride in what they do.

why? A league minimum player over a 1st round pick QB? One is ZERO risk and the other is a huge investment.

If he sucks, you can cut him with no cap hip at all. There isn't a qb in this draft worth a damn

People forget that his head coach at the critical developmental part of his career was Lane fricking Kiffin.

The most immature coach I've ever seen that has 15 player brawls in the lockerroom after Bowl games. Not exactly an ideal situation for Jamarcus or anyone.

Broncos should give him a try out. They have a QB with injury issues and who will retire in 2-3 years. Practice Squad/2nd string at best

I hope he pulls it off and redeems himself. One of the best LSU QB's ever. Anyone here that wouldn't have rather hime at QB during anyone of the last 5 years GTFO.

He's a Tiger for life.

lolz at people assuming he's coming back when he still has 40 pounds to drop. Let's see what happens in about a month. Certainly would be a great story.

I'm pretty sure that he broke some laws. Wasn't he arrested for having codeine without a prescription? People get arrested when they break the law.

But I think I know what you meant... And you are right that he didn't hurt anyone but himself.

charges were dropped. They had a full bust on his house and they found a half a bottle of codeine on the other side of the house from where he was. misdemeanor amount. Someone in the house claimed it as their's, but the police still arrested JaMarcus for it (which never happens).

I don't think he has ever been convicted of a crime to this date

Doesn't have to be NFL right? You can make a living playing ball in Canada. That is much more likely. I like ole JR, exciting as hell to watch as a Tiger, that's for sure. He'd be standing flat footed in the pocket, could never tell if he was going to throw 10 yards or 45, lol.

he's previously said he doesn't want to play in the CFL, the UFL (where I think he had a pretty decent offer at one time) or anywhere but the NFL.
