I read in an article today that the University of Illinois band was greatly expanded this year. Linda Moorehouse is their director.

Wrong.....she was ousted from the Band area at Illinois (she works in the admissions office) and does not preside over any band.

If around 275 musicians show up, plus 25 or so color guard members and 20 Golden Girls, that puts the total membership pretty close to the usual 325.

The color guard and golden girls ARE/HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PART OF THE 325.

Do people really care about halftime shows? All I care about is pregame and I'm worried because now for the first time in a long long time Tiger Band has no directors with any connection and history to LSU and no true knowledge of our traditions. Just wait until they change pregame.

This. All of the Roy haters suddenly became half time show connoisseurs. Half time is when you go take a leak and grab a fresh beverage/mixer.

You are right on two fronts:

1. I was in tiger band up until last year

2. I meant to type 2013-2014

That being said, that doesn't change the validity of anything else in the post. I never said I was not in tiger band so don't accuse me of lying. However, I did go back to preseason camp to observe and I am happy to say that tiger band is fine and will have a great season and I am excited to see what they will do on the field. It's just a shame that you had to go try and nitpick at what I said to try and find a flaw in my argument. The facts still stand that the halftime shows through the last years have been lackluster-or just plain boring.

Oh and just an FYI: while the music for those shows wasn't bad, the drill was absolutely horrific-and while we're at it, I want to point out that Roy's friend wrote the drill for our halftime shows and it was so easy you could guess what was coming next based on the set before it.

I'm also glad that you didn't deny the fact that you are more than likely one of the people who is hoping for the worse for tigerband. I guess since you posted one of my previous comments that I should post some things from the group...just to "show the facts".

Also, while I'm at it...for a very specific example of stuff that has been repeated. The song "America" which is a very short arrangement used for a CG/GG feature was played in 2009, 2011 and 2014 and two of the songs from the west side story show were done in 2009/2014 in the exact same order.

Please know your history....the music from West Side Story has been performed by the Tiger Band many many times prior to your citations. ALL COLLEGE BANDS RECYCLE SHOWS (FROM THEIR OWN PAST AS WELL AS OTHER COLLEGE BANDS). If the tiger band was so boring, why have they received so many awards/accolades....especially during the last 5 years? I also read that Roy was awarded "band director of the year" by some organization a couple of years ago. Also, please note that while the LSU band was repeating shows, being "lackluster-or just plain boring," they were voted the best band in the SEC.......by the band directors of the SEC.

Can you please give me specific examples of a major college band repeating music with this much frequency that isn't for a special occasion (such as Tennessee's circle drill). I'll wait. Also you can have all the awards in the world but if your shows suck and people and alumni keep complaining about the awards don't mean crap. ??

Please stop you ignorance.....The rant is NOT representative of the LSU fan base. I love the Tiger Band and think Roy was a great director. I read in the paper a while back that when Roy took over as the director, the band lost over half of its scholarship money....yet he was still able to keep the band as good or better than it had been in the past. My seats are in the south end zone and I can attest that EVERYONE in our area LOVES the band and their shows. I admit that I like some better than others but I think that is probably a good thing. A show I like might bot be liked by someone else and vice versa. Of course I'm mature enough to realize this.

So had the band won anything of note the past 5 years? I see 1997, 2002 and 2008.

The band definitely has not lost any scholarship money-$1000. I also love Roy as a person but a good director he was not. He was definitely more suited as an assistant director.

They absolutely have lost scholarship money. The only reason I went to LSU was because of the golden oaks scholarship that covered out of state tuition for non music majors. My first year in TB was in '13 and just a few years later they no longer offered that scholarship to incoming freshmen.

Golden oaks was not a music major specific scholarship but if you are including that then yes, LSU lost the scholarship

Linda Moorehouse would come back if Les Miles just wasn't so stubborn on offense.

Wow...you REALLY do not know your facts. The band had different pools of scholarship money. ONE of those was tuition waivers that were funded by financial aid. These waivers were taken away in the 2010 budget cuts. These were for Tiger Band members only. PLEASE know your facts BEFORE speaking. I got my info from one of the staff members who worked in the band office.

Again, if you are referring to golden oaks, that was a LSU wide scholarship, not a tiger band specific scholarship so please, be more clear before you speak.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this almost 10 years ago?
