A returning Tiger Band member who quit during camp sent me a message that the total number at camp was around 275. For the last 5 -6 years, they have been cutting around 75 - 100 in order to stay at 325. THAT'S A BIG CHANGE!!!

My opinion is my ears and eyes. I've seen a lot of bands in that stadium in my 40+ years. The past 5 years have been borderline laughable.
eta: Also, did you just throw in an award from almost 50 years ago?

Get your hearing checked and get some glasses. The band (for the last 10 - 15 years) has been as good as college band gets. They are recognized around the country by other college band directors as "among the very best." If you don't like the GBFTL, then you dislike most other college bands. Also consider this, something you find boring might be considered not boring by someone else. You certainly don't speak for all LSU fans!

There's little difference between the physical abilities of the football players at LSU and Alabama. The big difference is on the sidelines.
Same with Band. No difference between the talent level of Tiger Band members of present with those of the 70's/80's/90's/Post 2000.
It's all Coaching, Organization and Leadership.
Ken Bodiford of JSU is Nick Saban and RK was Curley Hallman.
Can't comment on current Tiger Band interim Director Dennis Llinas until there is a body of work available as evidence to make a prudent judgement on. We'll find soon enough. Either we'll be entertained by the half-time shows or we wont.....

Yeah, that's it, we're all just out to get one of the best things about LSU gameday.
Face it, your boy was about 20 years behind in the marching band game with no vision to improve it.

Jesus Christ man. The halftime shows have steadily declined after King left. Period, end of story.
NOBODY cares about what ever else the band does.
He certainly does speak for the majority of LSU fans.

In case you haven't noticed,much of EBR parish has been under water for the past week. That could, at least in part, explain lower attendance at band camp. If around 275 musicians show up, plus 25 or so color guard members and 20 Golden Girls, that puts the total membership pretty close to the usual 325.

I am an Alumni and I agree with this. The band has been sliding for quite a few years and it is very noticeable. I really wish that Linda Moorehouse had been promoted when FBW retired. It was a huge mistake.
I read in an article today that the University of Illinois band was greatly expanded this year. Linda Moorehouse is their director.
Yet another frickup by the LSU administration.
