Ok Joe Dean and Irish, tell me where he touched you. What has he personally done to you.

As a recipient of the Tiger Band Honors Scholarship in 2001 after an audition with Roy King, I can say that this entire thread is full of unknowledgeable blow-hards.

Roy was great and worked many, many hours each and every week far beyond any of you "arm chair band leaders". Linda drove the program like it was a military unit. I think Linda should have been given the program after Wickes left. It didn't happen so whatever.

The program is now in different hands and I am willing to bet that 9 out of 10 of you here don't really care to watch the half time show anyway. I'm sure the entire tune of this board would turn around if the new director blasted neck for 5 minutes following every score and then again repeatedly as we pummeled people. I get it, the band members love that shite too! Like every "head" of a program at LSU they are subject to bullshite PC rules. Heaven forbid a bunch of 18-21 year olds get excited and scream "suck that tiger dick" or "assholes, assholes".

If you wanna bitch about something, bitch about the pussyfication of America. That is what is stopping us from the bad arse things we used to love about the band in tiger stadium...

The bottom line is, we have a guy directing what is supposed to be one of the top major university bands in the nation with a ton of tradition and history--who has never been head of anything more than a high school band.

And that should never happen at LSU.

And don't give me that bullshite about "Oh, it was such a high-powered band!" Doesn't matter. Still a high school band.

I know his title is "interim," but we all know what's going to happen. No matter what happens this year, we'll get the obligatory "Oh, he did a great job" out of Thomas Boyd Hall and he'll get the title permanently.

I just don't see FKA conducting a nationwide search and opening the vault for someone like the director of Ohio State's band.

And this isn't rocket science. If you can't watch a performance of "The Best Damn Band in the Land" and compare them to the present GBFTL and see that they are at least a solid couple notches better ... then you just aren't looking.

F King is a liberal shill and doesn't give a shite about LSU traditions and what makes it great. That's the problem when you bring he and Joe Alleva in...outsiders who don't understand LSU or Baton Rouge.

Looks like the Tiger band is about 10 percent smaller overall this year. There are only 290 members (including golden girls and flags) based on the victory hill practice video. The main problem is that the band has lost many brass instruments and picked up more woodwinds. The trumpets alone are down over 20 percent. The tubas are down near 20 percent. While woodwinds are up by 10 percent.

It is down by around 5% overall. Any number of factors, like natural attrition, Roy's departure, and the flood. But 5% is not something to be concerned about imo. If it is indicative of a problem with leadership, time will tell.

I would like them to start by having the band march in step and in straight lines for pregame. Tons of other bands out there pull off all kinds of awesome moving formations, and we can't keep lines straight.

I know it's hard and takes practice, but that should be the basic expectation for being a great marching band.

I agree with a previous poster that Alexander doesn't give a damn about Tiger Band or LSU's traditions. He brought in a guy in Todd Queen who crippled the marching band at the previous school he was at. Time will tell what happens to TGBFTL. Given the current administration, I don't see LSU doing a nationwide search to bring in a top quality candidate to replace Roy King.

Lol...what a dim-witted statement all the way around. You are talking about the band director like its the position of head football coach.

The "open up the vault" phrase is overplayed on this board anyways, and I especially don't think it applies to the position of band director. When does a university president go out of his way to find a band director?

People on the Rant think people like Alexander and Alleva are at LSU to destroy it from the inside.

I don't think that either King and/or Alleva are deliberately out to trying to destroy LSU, but neither of them gives a shite about our traditions.

Allowing our traditions to die/go away = destroying LSU.

If that's the case, then what can be done about it?

Call attention to it at every turn. Every time they/he does something that harms the university we love, write letters, emails, etc. People like F King, Alleva, current band staff are counting on us to just give up, go away, get tired, forget, etc.

Isn't the current BOS made up of mostly Jindal appointees? Only the governor can replace them, and Alexander for that matter, isn't that the way it works? Is there any way to move the band under the jurisdiction of the athletic department?

I know that quantity doesn't necessarily equate to quality in the college marching band world, but if Tiger Band membership continues to drop and there isn't a noticeable improvement in quality of shows and sound, I don't see how the current staff can keep their jobs.

Maybe you don't know Llinas like I know him. He is immature and self centered. He talks down to people in an effort to assert himself, etc. At least that is what I picked up from talking to him several times and watching him interact with others.

So in other words, you have no idea.

Stop trashing a guy you don't know. He's a fantastic director. I've not only been taught by him in TB, but I've also been on a few pep band trips with him, where its a little more lax and you get to know everyone better.

I'm thinking that your disgruntled Tiger Band connection spoke ill of him and molded your entire view of him, or at least casted your impressions in a negative light.

Roy never led a College Band before becoming director, either.
