So basically saying who cares if this game is played. Whether LSU wins the west or not should only be determined by games they played against west opponents.

Obviously can't change the rules now, but that's a fair point. Maybe.

It makes sense. West determines west, east determines east, and let the SECCG decide the SEC champion.

But how do you do that if LSU plays one game less than the rest in the west??

Simple. You only judge the western division games so the UF game means nothing.

you are missing the point. We'll have played the same number of games against teams in the WEST as the other teams in the West.

Not playing Florida, who is in the east, won't matter.

but they would have played all 6 games vs the West. so that record head to head is what counts. Throw out the win or loss to an eastern team as it relates to the winner of the division. That win or loss still counts towards your overall record. Just like the wisky loss does not count in your sEC standings.

i agree with this...if you want to take it a step further make it to where cross divisional games are equal to half games or something.

Tennessee could possibly beat everyone in the East this year, but still not make championship game because of tough draws in the west.

You could always use cross divisional games as tie breakers.

Granted, this is from the guy who was slightly annoyed a 3 loss LSU team made the 2001 SECCG and his Florida Gators were stuck behind Tennessee with 2 losses

This is actually a fair solution if the game isn't played

It won't penalize LSU if they win out and it won't penalize Tenn if they lose to Alabama

It also makes things more fair on a year to year basis because of the quality of the permanent cross over opponent

If your crossover opponent is Vanderbilt you would have an advantage over Bama/LSU/AU who have tougher permanent cross over rivals.

That has been his response to the permanent cross division opponents.

What he is asking, I think, is what if next year the LSU-Ole Miss game gets canceled? LSU goes 4-1 in the West, Alabama goes 5-1. Now what? It doesn't fix the problem. It fixes the problem THIS year, but not for good. If this is a black eye for the SEC because 7-1 Alabama goes to Atlanta instead of 6-1 LSU (who beat Alabama), then shame on the SEC for not thinking the rules through. Otherwise, the rules are in place, "highest winning percentage". And they aren't changing the rules in the middle of a season.

record against west opponents. Other SEC games could be used as a potential tie breaker.
