but he can sure as hell manage a program better than most.

His first game at Tiger Stadium was a disaster.
His last season at LSU was a disaster.
He won the national championship his second season. He won one SEC Championship after that and then went down hill.
I guess his ability to manage a program depends on your expectations.
The game has passed him by.

No its not. Miles has played some pretty terrible SEC teams and rarely did we see the display of offensive weapons that was saw on Sat

I never suggested it was a regular occurrence, but it has happened at a similar level before Saturday. It is impossible to tell if Saturday was a freak occurrence for this staff or if it will be the norm. I've got no problem in people suggesting it will be the norm because frankly there is no reason to suggest otherwise at this point, but I'm not going to anoint this staff yet.

This is why some of the 'negaTigers' are so damn obnoxious and just as bad as BeeFense can be.

Miles presided over the most successful 11 year stretch in LSU history, and the only reason his last 4 years were considered mediocre is because of the standard he helped set in his first 7.

I know Mizzu isn't on the same scale as Bama but do you really believe a Les Miles offense would have hung 42 points and 638 yards on Saturday? LSU wouldn't have looked anything like they did with Les on the sidelines and you know that. They probably would have squeaked out a win but it would have been ugly. That's what Les Miles football had become.

Well it was one of the best DL's in the SEC and the country and they also had one of the best MLB's in the SEC also. Idk what you talking about but that was most certainly a good defense. We put up 630 yards on them bro this wasn't Mizzou State we talking about. Les should be embarrassed because there is no way in hell he could have gotten this team to perform the way they did this weekend.

Do you know why Coach O keeps saying 1 team 1 heartbeat???

Because it wasn't under Les Miles, he didn't have this team playing as one. That is most important here. Seems to me that he had certain players that recieved different treatment, wasn't playing guys that have earned playing time. I think he had many of his players just going through the motions and not believing with their heart and soul that they were GREAT and can play with anyone in the country. Reason I say this is because in these interviews you have some guys that are completely bought in already (these are guys miles didn't let perform) then you have others that just don't know yet (these are the Les Miles buddies) I can see and feel that from here. From what these interviews feel like. I believe coach O will get them all playing as 1 and then we will see some real football at that point. The Great coaches know how to get this done, Saban, Herman, Pete C, and I believe Ed O has picked up on this and is installing this type of program and way of thinking or belief system in the LSU program. You will see better results from this team I'm willing to bet especially after this huge win. It's very telling and if they didn't believe before this game I bet many have changed that attitude now. Go Tigers and Coach O Go!!!!

Les learned in 2008 that he got way more heat for losing big (Georgia and Florida), then he did for losing ugly games that were close (13-3 against Florida). So he decided then and there that he would keep all margins close and never let a qb throw him out of a game. That wrought what we know as the Miles offense. Ground and pound. No risk. Hope the defense can pitch a perfect game.

I don't think people realize how much it means to all the players when they see Jazz get a chance to show case his skills or R Gage get a deep ball thrown to him or giving Williams the opportunity to score 3 TDs. It tells these guys I'm looking out for YOU and I'll do anything for y'all to get this offense going. They performed like no ones business and did their best EVEN with their HC just being fired and to get these guys believing week one with a new system in place is HUGE. Week 2 I think will be even better. Watch out FL here comes a different LSU team. Ha ha ha and you know what I don't think they will be prepared to match the intensity we will bring. They will be more prepared then we have been accustomed to. I can't wait to see week 2.

I was excited about the win but I am not sure that people realize we weren't playing the '85 Bears defense out there. I get wanting to be excited about the team, I just don't understand the need to create ridiculous false narratives.

Would love to pull up the BeeFense responses last year to people who noted LSU's offensive struggles against poor defenses.

God. You're so transparent. I mean, it's palpable. If, by some chance, LSU rolls over UF similarly, you're going to tie yourself in knots trying to deflect the "false narratives".

the full quote is more to the point I think...
quote:

I think you would consider it an offense that has the width and breadth to take advantage of an opponent, so I can't imagine that -- I think what everybody is saying is, geez, you know, let's go for 600 yards and let's put 50 on people, and we're for that.

The issue is we have to find the recipe that allows that to happen because we have talent. I promise you this: We've recruited well, and there's some really, really good kids here and good people.

I really do believe he'd have loved to do that weekly...he simply could not come up with the recipe that allowed that, given the constraints he had for the offense. The sad fact seems to be that it did not require some Texas Tech level of throwing it around the yard...merely a little bit of change and a desire to open things up and allow these wonderfully talented young men to do their thing.

There was no malevolence to Miles...he wanted to succeed. He genuinely thought his way worked...and the truth is, it had for a LONG time. Then, it didn't.

I was struck Saturday night watching the stats on the scoreboard in Tiger Stadium by how almost exactly they matched this quote...

I agree, but this is only my second thread I've made about Miles.

So is there a limit?

Really, at this point, I don't many care what he is feeling or thinking. No one should feel sorry for him.
In the end, he made his choices. It almost seemed like he took his 11th hour reprieve as a sign that it was okay to do as he pleased. He never had any intention of changing.
LSU doesn't owe him anything other than what he received. Next year, they will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 2007 NC team and he and the team will be honored. That's enough.

Remember, this is a man who got pissed mightily that Mett almost bootlegged a TD in an Ole Miss blowout. He punished him and the team by making them kneel the ball for the final few minutes

I've never forgiven that.

1. It goes against the whole "play for 60 minutes" thing.

2. How do you tell your 3rd team to go into a game and NOT score? They practice during the week, too. How is that fair to them?

3. If your defense can't stop my offense, that's hardly MY problem.

THIS!!!!!! Wasn't Les's "narrative" always to put the players in the best position to be successful? I think we finally saw the results when you actually DO put them in a position to succeed and have some sense of timing in the play calling. No super-spread offense needed.
