u history. That's why ppl consider them talented. Also had an alltime wr two great olineman and Faulk. That was a talented team they just didn't know how to win y

That would be the 1996 draft class and on. Im talking 91,92,93,94,95 draft classes. Ive repeatedly said late 90's had talent.

Bottom line is that Miles underachieved with the so called 5 star talent YOU

Its laughable that you are using recruiting stars as a judgement of talent because you know youve talked yourself into a corner.

Miles FAILED in THAT POSITION....

My god. You cant even keep your opinions straight.
Remember your post from earlier?
quote:

Coaching has a shitload to do with the little number of players drafted

And this one?
quote:

. Better coaching would had more players drafted. It's not that hard to figure out.

So by this logic miles was an outstanding coach. Or let me guess, those posts dont apply to miles.

Rick you're missing the point. Les was a very successful coach and I'd grade him with an a- b+ as CEO administrator for LSU which is great. I don't think he's a great game day coach and if arnsparger and les would've came to LSU at the time les did when we were established as a contender and had elite level talent theydve done better. As far as successful that's an objective term you say win pct trumps everything however I believe with the extras Rent a wins Saban and bill would've equaled that remember bill had 11 games seasons Saban too for his first 2 years. And I also prefer Saban winning Nattys 20% of the time and sec crowns 40% of the time to les 8.3% on Nattys and 16.7% on sec titles. That's all I'm not arguing he wasn't successful I'm just saying you can't look at coaches in a vaccume.

Yes but a lot if the 96/96 graduates played on the 95 team. And you can check the stats the front 4 of
Gabe northern
Booger McFarland
Chuck Wiley and James gilyard had collectively better numbers than any front 4 who ever played at LSU plus we had great lbs and one of the best secondary's we ever had. Tory James and denard walker are top 3 pairs of corner ever at LSU. It was dinardo a first year our offense was relatively young and we had been bad for a long time. But the talent was there. Eddie kennison Kevin Faulk sheddrick Wilson David lafluer and even Jamie Howard. He was very good once he got a coach and if you ever get a chance to catch one of his games on classic you'd see this guy was better than anyone we've had since Flynn lately.

You're right about pre 95 although coaching hurt those players hallmans recruiting class in 93 was considered one of our best up until that point. Robert Davis Robert toomer joe Johnson just to name a few. Those guys never had a chance but besides the draft we had a good bit end up making pro rosters. Can't compare it to what we pull in now but our facilities tv money and exposure and elevated pecking position in the college football landscape have put us over the edge. Saban knocking down the wall in New Orleans helped us a great deal too.

Pretty much everything you said is the point some of us are trying to make. We had several players drafted from '96 onward that were on those early to mid 90s rosters.

Obviously we've had more talent and better teams since, but that doesn't mean we had untalented rosters back then.

Also even with the talent Hallman was awful, arguably lack of recruiting is what killed Archer, but Dinardo may have done something with it.
DiNardo's original Staff was very good.

He could've done something of consequence if Carl Reese and Ron Case wouldn't have left for Texas and North Carolina.

Not that Saban built, that Emmert built. Saban was part of Emmert's vision and he was the one that stepped up and paid Saban twice of what we were looking to pay a coach.

While Saban was a really good coach when he got here,
it was Emmert's vision that Saban is still following today.
Saban was not the Saban we see today until he worked with Emmert

Well if we are gonna get technical Taft and tickets built it. But if you remember the Saban luncheons he presented the idea of what it was gonna take to make the next step. Whoevers original idea it was or if they came up with it together I guess youdve had to have personal knowledge of that. However compared to what we have now in charge Emmert was a god and it wouldn't surprise me if it was his idea. But we weren't moving in that direction until Saban got here Emmert was here in 99 and there was no sign of that happening.

With curly Hackman and Jerry D?. The same amount we won in the 90s.-none. Lsu did have some talent from 93- 99 just lacked depth. Dinardo had a lot of potential then hired Lou tepper to replace Carl Reese and micromanaged the shite out of the entire team. Became a head case at the end. The 98 season could have been special but after watching champ bailey and Quincy carter shred LSU's defense I knew we were fricked. 98 notre dame game, their TE single handily beat us and that was with Faulk taking one to the house on a kickoff in the 2nd half.
