Nah. If Mauck stays healthy the 2002 team would've been good but not that special. Georgia would've still been better I think and VT had already whipped them. Definitely win the west though.

Great Manager of the game, sometimes didn't show up in the big games.

Replete with a bald tattoed streaker....that was so freaking funny man...i had my cell phone and wallet in a zip lock baggy that had my liquor in it (the liquor was gone before kickoff because the delay was so long)...cell phone was dead forever and had to get a new one after that game...one of my best memories at TS.

The same way I view Matt Flynn.

As a champion.

Huh?

You have that backwards.

As for Mauck, he was an above average QB whose maturity helped him play a very steady role for a team with at ton of talent.

the '02 team could've done special things had he not gotten hurt against FLA and you saw that in '03.

LSU wins the West in 02 and 04 if Mauck plays those seasons. Hell.. they were still an Arkansas miracle away from winning the West in 02 anyways.

Mauck had some great games as a Tiger, 2001 SECCG, 2002 vs Florida, 2003 v Auburn and the Hogs. He has one of the most memorable and exciting plays in Tiger history with the toss to Skyler Green in the '03 UGa game.

That said, he wasn't the most accurate thrower and, as others have mentioned, played horrid ball vs Ole Miss and Oklahoma.

He was a great leader and a class guy.

Regarding the comment that Marcus Randall was a less athletic Jordan Jefferson: Randall, even with his limitations was a better overall player than JJ.

JJ never had a game like 04 Florida.

Team player and played with heart. He wasn't that talented, but he has my respect

No, Randall started and Russell bailed out Randall. Randall did score the winning TD in OT, however, because Russell went out with injury.

Randall redeemed himself, but this game set the tone for the season. We played 2 QBs the whole way, and 3 (Flynn) in Saban's last LSU game (Iowa).

Mauck was a solid QB. He poured it on average to below average teams, but against good defenses he didn't play that well. He played poorly against UGA (1st game), Florida, Ole Miss (who was very good that year), and Oklahoma. Fortunately he had one of the best defenses in the BCS era.

The average age of posters must be low, because Mauck, although a decent game manager, is nowhere near an upper echelon Tiger QB. YA Tittle, Bert Jones, David Woodley, Tommy Hodson (even maybe Jeff Wickersham). But these guys are all pre-1990, and apparently most of the Ranters weren't even born.

Was a good QB. Nick likes to get him QB's that don't lose him games, and that is what MM was. Someone who could win a game, but not lose it.

his legacy would also be much different had he come back for the 2004 season.

I remember hearing how Saban really really wanted him back for the '04 season. Like he talked to him in the super dome locker room about it after winning the NC.

You are prolly right about the average age of posters. That's why I said I was only listing the top 5 of QB's I had seen play. I didn't start watching till the 94 Arky game. So I basically only know from Herb Tyler on. Even at that he comes in no higher 5th

Mauck wasn't merely a solid quarterback in 2003. Let us not forget that he also won the 2001 SECCG when Rohan was injured. Further, after a horrendous start against VT, the 2002 squad was playing like a legitimate SEC title contender when Mauck was injured late in the Florida demolition.

I think you have that 100% wrong, other way around, think Nick wanted him gone for JR to take over...

I doubt that, seeing as Marcus Randall was the starter for much of the year after Mauck left.
