I doubt that, seeing as Marcus Randall was the starter for much of the year after Mauck left.
subject for another thread and think this has been vetted and while none of us really know (I asssume we all have "sources") I was told (here we go) NS wanted MM gone to make room for JR (did not exactly work out for him in 04, I understand) but that MM also was ready to try and make some NFL $$$, which in fact he did (many here seem to have forgotten) as he was on a roster for 3 years.

MM was 24 at the time he won the NC.
He had a window that was running out due to his age, and he wanted to get a few years in the NFL before entering Dental School - which he accomplished.. Making and sustaining an NFL roster is hard enough. He got 4 seasons of play in the League from 04-07. LINK and subsequently entered Dental School at 29.
His age was a factor in skipping that Senior Season.

Crazy that Saban would want his senior NC winning QB gone in 2004 to make room for a freshman who didn't even start.
Also crazy that people still think MM was better than MF. MM was not as good as Rohan,

I'm not sure flynn was either. I loved rohan though. Hell, i loved all 4 of the good QB's we've had and even liked randall
