umass at home with one game under their belt prior to this one.

With a 10am tipoff, and Martin going out in the opening minutes.

This will be one of the few games I actually get to watch this year. Hopefully Martin isn't hurt too bad.

This team is going to be good.
We went on the road with an extremely young team and gave a good UMass team all they could handle.
Thats without Martin the entire game, JOB in foul trouble, and terrible officiating to boot (pretty bad all around honestly).

Just wasn't meant to be, can't count the balls in the second half that just wouldn't fall.

Great experience for this young group.
One big thing we will need to find is some shooting from the outside besides Stringer and DEAR GOD learn how to shoot FT's, because if all ref's call it as tight as this shite, we'll be shooting 100 a game.

I am really excited about Mickey...if he can develop an outside shot he will be scary.

When you shoot 60% from the line and have 29 fouls and lose by 2, it ain't the refs

did you watch the game? guess those 29 fouls were legit. JOB had 2 complete bullshite fouls which made him sit for 8 minutes in the second half. I'm pretty sure he doesn't sit for 8 minutes that game is different. You're probably also gonna tell me that the guy didn't travel when he was trapped at halfcourt, either...

Looks like the team is able to adapt. 19 fouls in the 1st half, 10 in the 2nd. I like the ability to adjust.

The refs swallowed the whistles a little, and if by "adjust" you mean "move out of the way and give them wide open layups, then I'm not sure I like that. And even when we moved out of the way completely, we still got called for fouls a couple of times.

Good game, I am pretty excited and encouraged by what I saw.

1. Got down 7-10 multiple times and fought back on the road to get it close, that is huge

2. Missed free throws killed us, kinda the same story from last year. But just have to improve somehow.

3. Not having Martin really hurt us

4. We have to finish on the run outs, fast breaks

Just as long he doesn't get "too" good too fast. I want him here 4 years!

Free throw shooting lost us the game.

But the refs sure fricked us. 54 fouls in 1 game is dumb

I'll give some credit to UMass they were really amped to play us, really amped.....Honestly their body language looked like they were playing a top 5 team with how excited they were.

Lost by 2 due largely to terrible refs.

Without Martin as well.

Taking UMass to the wire at their house in the first game of the season is very encouraging.

Both teams were in foul trouble.

Don't blame it on the fouls, blame it on us not hitting free throws....

Overall a pretty good showing. Lits to learn from this game for a couple of the younger guys. Hopefully Martin returns Saturday.

And for God' s sake, the players need to spend some time on their own shooting free throws.

I didn't get to see the game. How did the refs hose LSU?

Was the foul count for each te way off?

The new rules are going to take time to get used to.

How bad did martins injury appear to be?

Obviously LSU adjusted somewhat. LSU outscored UMass in the 2nd half, and nobody fouled out (1 UMass player did). It's ultimately a good sign.

This and no Martin are the main culprits in my eyes. That said, I'm just as encouraged (maybe more) now as I was before the game.

For LSU to lose this game by 2 on the road without Martin is a win.

You mean a loss?
