I don't understand why people instantly say no shot at tournament. There is still a lot of talent on this team. Like SOS said, if there is some development we could be just as talented if not more talented than last year.

the center depth chart scares me more than any position
on the surface this looks bad but I think we all knew Morgan and Banana were going to be gone. Hickey is a bit surprising but I don't think it is a death blow. He could go off in a game and other games he would disappear. He didn't slash to the goal nearly enough

Doesnt matter. SEC refs will force us to slow it down.
As long as the current backcourt is better at defense than the previous regime, we will be fine

I really think he's trying to go younger which is a good thing but I still think we can win next year with the team we gone have. Maybe add a juco or senior transfer swing an and roll like that. Why not let Darcy Malone or Odo go cause they didn't produce either but I guess we need the big men.

There were always rumblings the past 2 seasons that CJJ and Hickey clashed. This news is not all that surprising. I'm sure CJJ has a contingency plan.
It's already been mentioned, but the 2015 class has the potential to be monstrous.

I love Hickey, but he cost us several close games this season by holding for the last shot and throwing up a clunker!
He also had a problem driving to the basket once the defense was set. He didn't have the ability to fake, double pump, use left hand, etc. to deceive the shot blockers and accurately bank the shot in like great point guards.
The NCAA rules change this season where you couldn't put your hands on a player around the perimeter took away Hickey's effectiveness in knocking balls loose. His steal #'s went way down from last season.
Gray looks like a great point guard and Quarterman will get better with experience and improved outside shooting.
Almost everything on offense went through Hickey and O'Bryant last year. With them both gone in 2014, watch out for an explosive offense. Mickey and Martin may both be all SEC this year. Gray is a scoring machine. Hornsby is a very accurate shooter from outside with size, something we have sorely missed previously. Stringer was great but was hampered with lack of height.
I have nothing but optimism for Jones and the BB Tigers for 2014 and beyond.

I feel like the problem with LSU's team last year was they didn't have a "team". They had good players but the roles were tough to fit with the personnel.
Hickey was a good PG that was scared to drive into the lane. This made the offense look very stagnant.
Stringer was a good shooter that could easily get shut out of games because he was 5'8".
Martin finally got going late in the season after that injury hurt him early.
Mickey is a great role player with a consistent mid range shot. Unfortunately the mid range area was packed with people coming to double/triple team JOB.
The way I look at it is we will finally have guys on the perimeter who can do multiple things so we will be able to go with what the defense gives us.
Quarterman will be able to get into the lane. We just have to hope he can shoot over 30% from three and is decent from the FT line.
Gray/Hornsby will be nice because they are taller guards who can shoot but also drive to the hoop. They won't be stay in the corner and shoot if the ball comes to them guys like Stringer.
The Gray/Hornsby duo is what I think really moves this team forward. Allows us to move the ball thru guards rather than JOB.
I think this will allow Mickey to be open for a lot of ally oop type opportunities along with his midrange game. Just gotta drive past perimeter defender. I think Q, Hornsby, and Gray can do that.

Exactly. Agree completely.

I don't agree with that at all.

LSU is better without hickey. I don't get the infatuation with these midget guards who are black holes

massiveattack is a good fan, but has always been pretty negative on the program.
To say at this point that LSU has 0 chance at the tourny is silly. While I apprecaite what Hickey did for LSU the past 3 years, it has been obvious that he has had a problem with the way Jones ran the program.
Im ready for guys to come in that want to play for Jones and work hard for him. There were times that I thought Quarterman played better than Hickey. He needs to get it together and I hope he is training his arse off because he has a chance to be a 3 year starter in the SEC if he can get it together.

quite possibly but if anything he would provide depth. So i still think it's a loss.

It's definitely not time to bring out the "LSU Basketball" phrase yet...

I don't think he was a liability.
But, a small guard who couldn't dribble penetrate in the half-court...and couldn't consistently hit an outside shot is a problem.
The flip side is that he was good in transition, and he could defend.
But, the concerns that we are hitting the reset button because of Hickey are ridiculous.
