'He's opening up the playbook': Danny Etling's Matt Flynn-type characteristics are sending Cam Cameron deep into LSU's playbook
quote:
Sep 20, 2016 at 1:08 am
but Etling’s pocket poise, escape ability, touch passing and pre-snap reads resemble Flynn, a guy who finished with a 12-2 mark as a starter
“The defense doesn’t know where the next attack is coming from – a deep (throw), check down, a run. Having that versatility brings confidence to the whole offense.”
Etling’s addition has even altered LSU’s typical conservative nature under Miles.
One of Etling's best traits is his progressions — based on post and pre snap reads
His first 14 completions Saturday went to seven different receivers
That resulted in Moreau’s first catch, D.J. Chark’s first touchdown reception and Moore’s first two-catch outing.
No, it's not a new playbook. It just looks that way.
“People think we’re expanding our playbook,” Moore said, “but Danny is just doing a better job of finding open guys.”

So we finally luck into a halfway decent offense because Miles was practically forced by the AD and crowd to make a change.
News like this is not cause for celebration--just confirmation that it's past time for Miles to go.
This staff's responsibility is to find and/or develop good quarterbacks. The shite offenses we've put up with in light of this revelation are absolutely intolerable.

Not sure that is accurate. Think Flynn was 11-2.
But since Flynn and RP. Miles has failed to recruit a qb outside of Mett. So we know Les opens it up with a guy he trusts.
Eitling looks like he could be that guy.

The crowd and the AD forced Miles to recruit and play Etling?

This only happened in the feverish brains of you and a few dozen of your internet "friends".

quote:
It’s far too early to call this a new normal for the Tigers, but Etling is getting a chance to remove the training wheels from LSU’s passing game that had been locked in place for most of the past two seasons.
"It shows that the coaches have a lot of trust in Danny and a lot of trust in the receivers that we’re actually going to throw that much," LSU receiver Travin Dural said after Etling completed 19 of 30 passes in Saturday’s 23-20 win against Mississippi State -- the most pass attempts by an LSU quarterback in a win since the 2013 season opener. "So I see it a lot, I know the fans see it and the whole team sees it. It’s something we’ve been working on, and we’re finally getting a chance to show it."

When I read a response like this, it doesn't make miles look bad, it tells me that this poster is literally an idiot. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, that tries to put the state game on miles is an actual retard.

In today's Dandy Don:
Less than a week ago, Miles said:
P.S. That means that Miles knew before the start of the Wisconsin game that Etling was a qualified replacement for BH6! And Miles failed to use Etling in that game!
That is gross incompetence.

tidbits come from Les Miles’ weekly press luncheon:
Miles spoke highly of quarterback Danny Etling, saying he dominated workouts this summer, is one of the most athletic guys on the team, and can read route concepts and hit his check-downs, making it easier to get the ball to a number of guys. Asked if Etling should be afraid of being pulled if he makes a mistake, Miles answer was a definitive, “No.”
Less than a week ago, Miles said:
quote:
“I have to be real honest with you, I don't think we were in the same position. I don't think the team was, and I don't think Danny was. I think that really his -- he really came into -- in the last two weeks, 10 days, into a much higher -- executing at a much higher rate and just understanding more. He's continued to improve.”
P.S. That means that Miles knew before the start of the Wisconsin game that Etling was a qualified replacement for BH6! And Miles failed to use Etling in that game!
That is gross incompetence.
