Great post and comment. The other thing I saw Jennings do well - throw to make the receiver get open. Don't wait until the receiver is open. JJ used to wait until the receiver was open, then it was too late to make the throw and the defense was already on him and the receiver. Your post and comment confirm that point. Post more.

Good analysis.

However I don't believe Dickson is the primary on that play.

There's a safety deep. Anytime you're throwing a sideline route (x or z receivers running hooks in this trey formation) , QBs are coached to look off the safety before targeting the primary WR to keep him from jumping the route. That's what AJ did.

I wish they would use these next two games to open things up and experiment, but they will use as vanilla an offense as possible per the usual in mismatches:

I disagree. the main issue with last night was the failure to execute. they will have to open up the playbook and experiment in order to get the most out of Jennings and the rest of the offense. it's just a matter of execution.

I saw a spin move and movement in the pocket I liked from him.

I'm encouraged by some things from the offense in the second half. I'm not sure the spin move is one of them.

I thought I saw Jennings spin away from pressure at least two--if not three-- times. And each time he did, I wasn't sure if he needed to specifically spin to get away. When he did, I felt like he lost perspective on how the routes were developing downfield. My recollection is that each time he did the spin, it took him a second or more to get his bearings and figure out what was happening again, causing him to hold on to the ball even longer. I don't think he made any terrible mistakes, but I don't think he made any great plays following a spin move either... again, I'm going off memory and could be wrong... If so, by all means let me know.

100% incorrect. Some of his better throws came after escaping the pocket. One specifically to Quinn comes to mind. Incomplete but it was on target and deep downfield. The long TD pass was on a scramble. Jennings had poise.

I think we need to play Harris some just for experience but in my opinion Jennings is firmly the starter AND finisher.

one of my biggest bitches is that our #2 qb never gets any meaningful reps in a game. I really would like to see harris get a coupla series in the next 2 games. stick with him and call some good plays, not just plain vanilla stuff.

Fair enough.

I may be thinking of the same play, but just remembered it as incomplete.

I don't mean it as a knock. To be clear, he definitely didn't make any big mistakes at any point. And sometimes a spin is the best way to evade pressure. It may not have been possible for him to step forward to slip pressure on these plays while keeping his eyes downfield, so if the spin was the best way to avoid the sack, it was a good decision-- period. I just didn't recall them as being really good because I remember (perhaps mistakenly) that they led to him holding the ball while trying to figure things out again... then having to finally rush his throw for an incompletion.

Regardless, I agree Jennings showed a lot of poise and you could see him starting to find his groove out there. And that is good news.

Nice work on the analysis/gifs/narrative.

Jennings is a gutsy leader and the starter. I think at this point you only play Harris for game experience( where you can) as you need a backup in the event of a Jennings injury.

spot on!..i thought the same thing..need to release the beast in Jennings...glad they took the handcuffs off and let him play efficiently...he's got a bazooka for an arm and seems really accurate..love seeing him throw the timing routes, its been a long time since that's happened..

Jennings command of the offense and confidence was very evident

Harris looked like a true freshman in over his head. the OL couldn't understand what he was saying in the huddle

That will go away with reps for harris but Jennings is clearly the guy

Nice post...

As CC and LM get comfortable and trust Jennings to manage the game and take care of the ball, they will open up the play book.

It's a work in progress....and you make some GREAT points.

We need to be patient because this time next yr ought to be special with this team.
