I know, another Hawthorne thread...last one I'll start this season.

Just wanted to show some of the good folks here that my post of his Zardon call Thursday was not in any way hating on the man. Here's his call of Bregman's double and it's absolute perfection. Accurate, thrilling, complete with his signature phrase-it's everything you love about him in one call. LINK

I, personally, will miss that voice. It has been my sole connection to LSU Athletics more times than I can count. I have shared some awesome moments with just that voice.

Nice post and that was a great call.

That having been said, I foresee 2000 pages of the same lame arguments that have going on here for years and 10 un-funny Jack Hunt references.

I love Jim. One of the best voices around. I do think his eyesight has gotten pretty bad. Sad to see him go but its time.

They all mess up from time to time. That's the beauty of it.

He will be sorely missed. He is the voice of LSU athletics. Hate to see him go.

Growing up till this day he is the only voice I know. I will miss him, I hope LSU honors him in a bug way after basketball season.

I'm really going to miss him when he's gone. I'm 32 and all I've ever known is Jim Hawthorne as the voice of the Tigers.

When's he's gone, who will people talk about? I'm used to his voice and his foibles. They've become entertaining. I like hearing him.

Man that call was awesome. So was the one immediately after on your soundcloud.

Many a nights have been spent at the camp listening to ol Jim on the radio. He is and will always be one of the truest Tigers ever. I agree that "it's time," but I sure will miss him. His excitement is incredibly contagious, and that's something lacking with a lot of radio callers.

Cheers to Jim.

I am 43 and remember listening to John Ferguson with my dad in Luna on WWL. That voice is unmatched in college football and there is no way Jim Hawthorne could match it. As for you youngsters that have issues with him, try doing it yourself and remember he is around 70 years old.

I agree with this. Ferguson did a masterful job of drawing you into the game and at the same time not getting in the way.

This cannot be said enough. It's takes talent to pull it off.

Wonderful memories gathered around the radio with my Dad listening to the great John Ferguson call LSU Football in the 60's and 70's!
