On this day 8 years ago, Dave Wannstedt's scrappy 4-7 Pitt team went on the road and beat 10-1 West Virginia that was #2 in the country, opening the door for LSU to make it to the NC game and win their 2nd of the decade.

Here's to Dave Wannstedt and his glorious mustache, may he always be remembered as an LSU hero

We also can't forget Lesean McCoy who is still my favorite non-Saint NFL player after his performance that day

I don't think I've ever watched a game with such blatant cheating by the officials. Amazing they were able to win that game

Amen to that.

I have never cheered so hard for a team I don't care about. That is what makes college football so awesome.

If this turn of events had not occurred, would Les Miles still be the head coach at LSU?

Forget Bo. Dave Wannstedt is the coach who had the greatest impact on Les Miles. Owes his whole career to that man.

No doubt. The Big East so badly wanted a team in the National Title race.

Also, WVU not going to the National Title is what sent Rich Rod to Michigan and running them into the ground. Who knows how things would have turned out differently if they had won this game?

I think a lot of people expected OU to beat Mizzou. No one expected Pitt to win, so Dave Wannstedt is the hero. Plus Bob Stoops is a bitch.

Considering he was fired from Miami paving the way for Saban to leave LSU

And while we're remembering: let's not forget Quinn Sharp, the 2011 Oklahoma State kicker who missed the chip shot field goal to let bama into the NC game instead of OK St.

This day is the only reason Miles is considered a good coach and still at LSU

I suppose he owed LSU one and that performance at Pitt was it.

Funny how things work out.
