f this turn of events had not occurred, would Les Miles still be the head coach at LSU?
Go watch the missed fg by Oklahoma state in 2011. Watch it a few times and its not even clear it missed. If that is called good would LSU just have tried to push him out?

True story.
Me and my dad went to the sec championship that year on a whim. I brought tickets and we met up in ATL. Had a blast. So after the game we are at the bar drinking taking it all in lamenting that they lost to Ark and just assumed WVU would handily beat Pitt. That year Ticket Reserve was a market place sorta like the stock market for on hedging on which team would make it to the championship game. You would get face value tickets + market value to reserve the rights. Buy low sell high. When LSU lost to Ark, the probability of them making it to the championship game the market plummeted so you could get reserves of LSU tickets for a $1. I scooped 20 up on a lark thinking it's only a few bucks. So there we are me and my dad watching the game and I'm telling him about Ticket Reserve, and how it works. We're drinking half paying attention to the game when the unthinkable starts to happen. I check TR, the price is skyrocketing! $1 reserve tickets were now at $100-500. Pitt wins the market explodes and tickets are going to $1000. I posted all but two for $900/reserve. The. Best. Christmas. Ever.

Pitt made me 16k that day.

I'm not sure. This is when saban was a defensive backs coach in the NFL. google: Wannstadt saban and go to images. There may be more photos or info. Or watch "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids".
