Thumbs up for Jimbo

I'd take Jimbo in a heartbeat if Les retired.

You make it sound as if jimbo was an accomplice with them.
Depending on the circumstances I could see jimbo coming back in the future. I would be ok with that

I'm checking back in to this thread to eat some crow.
Jimbo had taken over a program that had gone stale under Bobby Bowden and has accelerated recruiting, won a NC and made the playoffs in back-to-back years. The ACC may have sucked recently, but LSU is not going to pluck a HC from another SEC school and Jimbo has had enormous success against the competition he faces.
From an on-field perspective, Jimbo is the most well-decorated candidate we could ask for and if he should choose to leave his current setup, I feel he could bring a great deal of success to our program (particularly if Saban and Miles were to retire simultaneously).
That being said, I do have concerns over the way he runs his program off the field, particularly with the rape allegations prior to Jameis Winston's Heisman season... it's particularly alarming that some of you in this thread take this mindset....
Especially in light of Ray Rice, Greg Hardy, Adrian Peterson, etc.... this is the LAST thing that I want associated with the LSU program. To his credit, Fisher seems to be handling the issue as best he can, assuming his recent interview is credible and not simply a PR campaign.
Given that Winston was never formally charged with an offense for his actions, I can't say that Fisher should have done anything differently... but I am cautious.

Winston won a freaking Heisman and, although immature, wasn't a bad guy.

The sixth-year coach said he has always had a zero-tolerance policy regarding violence against women and has dismissed the player in both instances in which Fisher felt the evidence compelled the punishment. Greg Dent was dismissed from the football team before the 2013 season, and De'Andre Johnson earlier this month.

I'd have about the same attitude towards Dantonio that I have towards Fisher..
Compare Dantonio at Michigan State with Saban. I guess you really wouldn't have wanted Saban at LSU when he was hired. Dantanio has out performed Saban at MSU by a mile.
And don't give me that Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State being down. I don't believe Penn State and Nebraska were in the Big 10 when Saban was there. And Michigan being down does not offset MSU's victories overs Baylor, Stanford, TCU, Georgia, Boise State and Ohio State over the last 4-5 years. Also they have won 11 games or more 4 out of the last 5 years. Saban never approached that success at Michigan State. But for his age, Dantonio would be a great hire for LSU.

by Jabstep Why? Who in the hell are we going to get that's a better candidate than him? Not wanting Jimbo is stupid.
Those who did not think Jimbo was HC material:
Auburn (after undefeated season as OC), Nick Saban (upon leaving he did not recommend JF take his place).

Anyone who thinks Jamarcus was anything but an outstanding representative of LSU during his tenure there is an idiot.

What? You thunk Harbaugh willingly left San Fran to coach Michigan? They can call it what they want but Harbaugh was forced out at San Fran. He didn't leave to coach Michigan.

He could be back at LSU in 2017. Les will either retire or be fired before then IMO

So you prefer the guy caught up in the rape scandal at Vandy?

how does that reflect on him? Honest question. It's not like he raped someone. One of the players that did the raping went to Ensworth, which is one of the most expensive/high regarded schools in America. How could he have predicted they'd do something like that?

JR was a very good QB for LSU.
Besides what successful CFB coach hasn't had some knuckleheads during his tenure?

If PENN STATE... let me repeat... PENN STATE, felt comfortable enough to hire a coach "caught up in the rape scandal at Vandy," then I trust that said coach was unblemished in the ordeal.

If we're being completely honest, ensworth is not the most respected academic school in the state of TN. It's a football factory with a lot of Nashville money behind it. The recruit athletes from the inner city A LOT. they're about to turn into a boarding school and recruit nationally, at which point they will no longer be in TSSAA. Don't pretend like their football players are cut from the same cloth as the people funding that school

quote:Gerry DiNardo was hired the same year at LSU that Nick Saban was at Michigan State. Just by chance, I decided to track their progress together as coaches because our programs were viewed similarly as "middle of the pack" at the time. I even got my wish of the two going head to head in the Independence Bowl, in which the Tigers outshined the Spartans in a wild game that made DiNardo ultimately look superior. The "Bring Back the Magic" season prevailed.
Compare Dantonio at Michigan State with Saban.
Their records ended up being very similar after the same number of years at each program, with Saban hovering around .500 every season until his last year, while DiNardo enjoyed the peak of his success in his first three years, before the Lou Tepper demise.
My mind was settled, DiNardo was about the same or even a slightly better hire for LSU than Saban was at MSU.
When Saban was announced as the big hire at LSU, I was livid. I figured it a lateral move at best. Then, Saban loses to UAB in Tiger Stadium his first year, and I thought my worst fears were confirmed... more mediocrity on the way.
History proved otherwise.
