quote:yeah, i called them. they said don't let the door hit you on the way out. step father/mom still paying over $150 for cable. we're beating that by more than $50 per month
If your bill is too high, i would call them and threaten to switch providers

quote:thats insane. do you have any other choices where you live? if you dont have a better option than that, then yeah, any online tv streaming service is a better option. ive tried youtube, hulu, direct tv now, and playstation vue. out of those, youtube tv was the best imo. up to 6 can stream at once and unlimited dvr. it was amazing. i would still have it if they had a better channel selection.

i listed my rig just before that last post. we've been totally fine since cutting 4 years ago. when we did it, i figured it would be temporary but, now i can't imagine going back. huge waste
i went to the trouble of setting up a home theater computer. dual tuner tv card. 1tb hard drive. argus tv backend. kodi front end. it's a nice setup. i use real vnc from my phone to remote control the computer while in the bedroom. i ran a 35' hdmi cable to the bedroom so i can watch in the living room or the bedroom.
we also have apple tv 3, 4 and a roku 2.

Cheap multi-range antenna for local stations. WatchESPN is what I use for all other games.
I’ve heard sling works well. Or you could so like others say and just head to the local B-Dubs or Walk-ons

I canceled cable three years ago. Have a $20 HD antenna that I get free stations on and listen to the rest on the radio. It's amazing listening to a game on the radio the old fashioned way. Every one should give it a try if they haven't...

DirecTV Now Streaming. $25/Mo.

quote:this is what we’ve done, but there is a minor drawback and that is you can’t record the game or rewind any parts you missed or didn’t hear since it’s live streaming from the internet. Other than that it is great. Oh and of course now our network provider who also was our cable provider is charging more and more just for internet service. And we have few options there unfortunately and they know it.
Antenna for CBS, ABC and Sling TV for ESPN channels and SECN

SlingTV Orange & Blue costs $40/mo. Add a decent HDTV antenna and you’re done.
No Fox News on Sling, correct?
I have Directv Now for that reason only.

You can use PS Vue (even without Playstation) and for $45 a month you get all the espns and in Baton Rouge you get cbs too, so you are covered.

if you are watching ESPN and a kid puts on Disney .. it cuts you off
Hate that! I'm either going to get PSVue or I have to cancel or block Disney. Dam kids.

You are correct, but I stopped watching all national news programs years ago.
The only channel I miss is Discovery.

Thanks for the replies. Lots of good info in this thread.
Long story short I will drop what was a $290 bill (Suddenlink use to be only cable/high speed internet option in my neighborhood, and they knew it) to roughly $160/month for phone, internet, and cable package getting almost the same channels available. Will have 300 MB speed, unlimited data, ESPN, SEC Network, etc through youtube TV and HBO (through HBO Now).
