If this game were played with todays rules on hitting, both defenses would be short handed and suspended for the next game.

I was thinking the same thing.

Single most amazing upset I’ve ever witnessed live in my career.

I did a missionary stint in Mexico the summer before. A group from Florida came down to work for a week. They ribbed me hard about how they were going to hammer us. I said that there’s nothing like a night game in TS and it should be a good one. Don’t hold your breath.

I just had a feeling about it...

That and the 95 Auburn game were the loudest I’d ever heard in that stadium.

That upset also changed the entire complexion of the conference. Florida, as a program under Spurrier, was never the same.

Junior year...student section, still have my game ticket.

Started with the pregame shenanigans with the Florida fans that walked over to taunt the student section with the "Work 'em silly, Gators" sign, Faulk getting the place hyped coming out the tunnel, Bandit package confusing Spurrier's offense all night, rushing the field and then watching a drunk guy run up and down Highland Road waving a flag in only his purple boxer shorts at 3 a.m. and the cops cheering him on..hell of a night.

I was 9 years old. I remember when they tore down the goal post and the student section carried them up to where the NEZ scoreboard is and almost through them out of the stadium. People were pulling up the grass to take home.

I was in the band and couldn’t hear myself at times!

That was my freshman year at LSU. I was “hooked” on college football after that game.

Brought back the Bandits. Legendary.

Also Faneca blocked about half the Florida team pulling on the option TD

It was priceless to watch the old ball coach throw his visor into the turf. For some reason I had a feeling we were going to win that game when we had no chance per the Pondens

I read this article about Steve Spurrier's career and his wife's support and in the article, it said the only time she was ever unnerved on a road trip was when LSU fans starting shaking their bus in 97. Enough said.

It was a magical day from the tailgating to the end of the game. There was just something in the air even though LSU was getting picked to get clobbered with Cecil the Diesel breaking his leg the week before.

I was a 10 year old kid there with my parents and I never looked back after that. Forever LSU.

I’m not sure who remembers - but the week before, LSU had arranged for like 15 busses to take students to the Vandy game. It was like $25 for a bus ride, a ticket and a T-shirt. Anyway, if memory serves, we won that game 7-6, when Vandy scored a TD with 0:00 left and went for two but was called for false start. We then blocked the PAT to win the game. I remember getting on the bus and having Vandy fans tell us how bad we would get destroyed by Florida. Despite winning, we felt so down and we still had like an all-night 12 hour bus ride back. It was depressing.

Then the Florida game ended and faith in LSU football was restored.

After the game, I remember going to The Texas Club (Some country bar on Florida Ave that I’m not sure exists anymore) and a couple of cheerleaders were in line behind us. They were telling a story about how when one of the goalposts came down, it broke some dudes legs. However, even in pain, he was still celebrating.

That was the most fun I’ve ever had in a single day at LSU. The result was so unexpected we didn’t know what to do except party like hell. Obviously not the most important game in LSU history, but given the circumstances- perhaps the most fun to attend.

I was 7 on my dads shoulders yelling Corso Sucks at the ESPN set after the game. It seemed like 20,000 people went straight to the set after the goalposts went down to whoop his arse.

Tommy Banks TD was loud, but the place EXPLODED with Donaldson’s Pick6.

Announcers always said that kick returner for FL just coughed up the ball but someone on the coverage team knocked it out. I couldn’t tell who.

Sat with my sister in the parents section (nose bleed) watching her OG son, my nephew, double team Booger almost every play with the center. My sister cried on the way home to Ponchatoula saying she should have never eaten the gator sauce picante at one of the pre-game tail gates. Haha, she was serious and it was actually pretty funny. First time she had seen the Gators loose. UF & LSU have had great games over the years since.

Oct 11, 1997 was the greatest night in Tiger Stadium.

I’m glad I was there to witness it.

Gate 8/9, Section 15, Row L, Seat 9. (North Endzone, before they changed Section numbers).
