Uh, you've picked a completely misrepresentative picture of the current uniforms, in my estimation. There is a lot glare in that photo.

I took that into account, but the pants are clearly much different. Maybe not so much the helmets, but there's some difference there as well, it seems.

Look at other pics from the 90s and it's clear in all of them.

Here is the helmet we adopted in 1956, featuring the true canary gold of our modern (and gorgeous) uniforms

Yeah - I think the color has been fairly consistent since 1956. As we have used both Schutt and Riddell over the years, there have been both slight variances in hue, as well as advances in helmet manufacturing that have altered the appearance of the helmet.

Yes, precisely. The base hue has remained constant, but the technological advances in helmet design coupled with dramatic changes in television cameras and set resolution have altered their appearance slighty.

There is a photo of Matt Mauck taking a snap -- I think it was in the Georgia Dome -- and his helmet looked much more gold-like than yellow-like.

I searched but couldn't locate it.

I'm for staying with the colors as is, regardless of whether or not the hue has lightened. Most of the above reasoning works for me, the main thing being that nearly a dozen other schools use old gold and along with the Lakers, LSU is the most recognized team for wearing purple and yellow(gold).

The only change I would want to see would be what the geaux font would look like with our current helmet tiger and what the geaux font would look like with the new tiger (I know about the anti toonces movement and I'm sure a thread for this topic exists, but I'd still like to at least see it).

Does anyone know of a farked picture with the geaux font and/or new tiger on the helmet?

Back in the day when the helmets were more of a mustard yellow, that was money.

Deitzel changed uniforms and helmet colors. Old ones were very dull. Old gold helmets had the single purple stripe. The three stripes (white in middle and a purple on each side of white) was very new and "hot" then. I like the current brighter uniforms much better than the previous "old gold" uniforms and helmets. Current home uniforms and helmets look great. I like to occasionally see the yellow jerseys with white helmets. I do not like the purple jerseys with the gold pants. Maybe if the purple jerseys were a lighter shade of purple with white helmets (when LSU must wear dark jerseys as the visitor) would look better.

The pictures referenced in the previous page also are indoor vs outdoor. I don't think the color has changed much.

When the Packers wear their white jerseys and you see them on TV out of the corner of your eye, they look just like LSU uniforms.

I distinctly remember the 72-76 logo and liked that one too. I have an old piggy bank helmet with that logo on it.

It almost seems like the gold on the helmets has a hint of metallic flake in the paint now compared to say, 15 years ago. Not full metallic, but a hint.

The Packers have a full yellow metallic helmet if you look at up close shots of the players, and that wouldn't necessarily look bad for LSU's helmets either.

LSU's gold is the same as the gold used for Mardi Gras. Let's keep it that way.

Given that LSU's colors actually have their origins in the purple and gold of Mardi GRAS, I agree.

bruce, I am not saying go with Notre Dame gold...just go with a few more shades of gold.

What about yellow, with gold flakes mixed in the paint? Like a bass boat.

Though the color of the pants have certainly been brightened in the past several years. The pants color used to be a duller yellow.

I love the 72-76 logo

YEP...

and yes i believe around 1980 or so.. the helmets became a little more yellow - I think every team using yellow helmets had the plastic get more YELLOW then... not just LSU..

were a lot of HS teams with different shades of yellows in helmets in early 80s.
