For chatter about Les' future, let's remember how big the buyout is

Miles' buyout is a whopping $15 million. It drops to $12.9 million after Dec. 31 of this year. It moves to $8.6 million after the 2017 season.

That's serious cash, even for deep-pocket donors.

Good point. But the Pennington clan offered LSU $18 million if they wanted to let him go back in 2010. So some people just have that much money not at most places though.

if he goes 0-12 this year and loses the first 4 games next year, he will be fired

Interesting. Where do you get that from? I must have missed it. Please give my your source so I can read it.
Thank you.

I love Miles, but if we fail to win more than 9 this year I'll start a fund, donate the first thousand, and I guarantee the yahoos on here will meet that 15 million before the week is up.

If they don't, I just need to figure out a way to spin it so that it seems like someone was discriminated against for their sexuality or for their refusal to serve someone else because of religious beliefs. People eat that shite up.

There's no point in even mentioning this year's buyout price..

you'd better start that fund right now... 9 regular season wins looks like the cap on this year imo.

Who is chattering about his future?

Even as he's being paid now, it isn't as if he's being overpaid. Every coach in the West is making over $4 million.

If the right coach is out there to replace him, and he seriously tanks next year or in 2017, that buyout won't stop LSU from making the change. But that coach isn't out there right now.

How's Tennessee feeling right now about Fulmer getting cut? I'm not one of these "well no one out there is better so why fire Les" thinkers, but if the home run hire is out there, they'll pull the trigger.

That said, Les' staff is set through the end of 2017 (unless O gets a head coaching job). Joe Alleva (for all of his faults) will, and should, let Miles coach through then. LSU was loaded with talent and had coaching continuity through Les' first 3 years, and again from 2010-2013, and the records reflect that.

LSU will at the very least, win the SEC in the next two years.

Ever get the feeling that you aren't important enough to be kept in the loop on some things?

just a couple of things...

one, that $15 million isn't one lump sum... it will be spread out over monthly payments between the time he is fired and the final year of his contract... so roughly december of 2019... it may not sound like much, but it helps cushion the blow.

two, that number can always be lowered if LSU and Leslie can come to an agreement that would allow Leslie to resign instead of being fired... Leslie will be 62 after this season, so he could have as much as ten to fifteen years of coaching left in him if he wants that. stepping down instead of being fired will definitely make him more appealing to a future employer.

I don't know which part of this is more ridiculous, the notion that if Les were terminated, that he would want to rebuild another program at age 62, OR that a future employer would care more about the distinction between being terminated/resigning than his 2 NC appearances, 2 SEC Championships, 3 SEC West Championships, 100+ career wins at LSU, and consistent Top 10 recruiting classes.
