No need to find a bar, just get on campus with an ice chest of beer. It should be wide open by that time.

Agree wear another ( Non- SEC team colors) and just mention its your firs time there.

Tailgates are all over campus.

My favorite tip to give to first timers is to find yourself tailgating around the Indian Mounds before the Golden Band marches by. Once the band marches by on their way to the stadium, just pop in right behind them (behind the horseback police). You'll follow them down the hill and be able to watch one the band rile up the masses gathered by the stadium.

Once the band finishes, you'll have a straight shot down the hill to Mike's cage, and more tailgating until the game starts.

Do it. Great sights, and great picture op.

You'll have better luck if you don your own school's colors. Tiger fans love to host visiting fans from other schools, even more so if it's a school we don't even play.

That looks super impressive. Definitely want to check that out...and a live tiger? Sounds awesome.

Thanks to all for the recs - we will put them to good use! If you see a average looking white guy in a Cubs hat it might be me...hopefully I won't be stumbling around too much.

You can ask at most tailgate sites for some "walking-around" piss balloons...they will be happy to oblige.

I think this is partially correct...someone earlier in the thread mentioned wearing your hometown gear...I would agree with the exception of maybe wearing an LSU hat or some other small apparel. LSU fans love to see out-of-town folks that can easily be recognized wearing some LSU gear and pulling for the Tigers. That should get you more invites into tailgate activities.

Just my humble opinion....

oh yeah....

Don't get caught up with one tailgate. Hang around for a little and move on.

I leaned by attending LSU that Louisiana is such a unique state. The N'West portion differs from the N'East, the S'West portion differs from the S'East. The North differs from the South. Each tailgate will attract different crowds. Rednecks, coonasses, swamp rats, River rats, white trash, yats, etc. Certain tailgates vary from jäger bombs and Jell-O shots, to fine wine and beer. Just try and sample it all.

Go to the Greek Theatre before the game and mingle and take pics with the Golden Girls.

I don't see anything to worry bout if you were to wear Cubs blue gear & as far as just wearing a hat to distinguish yourself, there are a lot of locals wearing Cubs' hats down here. Geaux with a Cubbie dress mode & you'll be fine. Lots of great places to go in The Quarter, but do stop in Pat O'Briens as it is one of the most famous bars in the Quarter...and forget what anyother ranters ( N.O. haters ) may say. Grab a Hurricane in a geaux cup & walk around..staying on the main drags.

I don't know if someone else mentioned this or not but you will actually get better treatment if you wear your own school colors or colors from another team. I'm not kidding LSU fans are big on showing hospitality to fans of other schools. You may get ribbed a little or 'tiger baited' but you will actually get lots of invites for food and drink at many tailgate parties. You'll want to somehow let people know you are visiting and this is your first LSU/Tiger Stadium experience. It should be a good one! Enjoy!

Often, the term "Yat" refers particularly to the New Orleans accents that are "strongest" or most especially reminiscent of a working-class New York City accent,[1] though others use the term as a regional marker, to define the speech heard in certain parts of the city and its inner suburbs. Used in these narrower senses, Yat is simply one of many sub-dialects of New Orleans. The word comes from the common use of the local greeting, "Where y'at?" or "Where are you at (i.e. in life)?", which is a way of asking, "How are you?"

BTW..if you go down the hill to watch the band, get on the side closest to the stadium, as that's the direction the horns will turn to to play their 4 famous notes. It was estimated that there were 140-150K on campus that Saturday...only 92K were there to watch the game live. UF game in '07
