First Time to Death Valley - Recommendations?

A couple of buddies and I are coming down to New Orleans for the weekend (from Chicago 'burbs, Ohio and Texas) and are headed up to Baton Rouge for our first Death Valley - and SEC - experience on Saturday (we'll be donning LSU apparel in an attempt to enjoy the festivities as much as possible). Curious if anyone had any recommendations for us to do/see while we are there.
We're taking a bus up from N.O., arriving around 11:30 am, and are headed back on another bus after the game.
Couple of questions, if you folks don't mind:
How's the open container situation? I've been to some schools where they crack down pretty hard on it. I'm assuming it's OK to walk around with a beer here?
I've heard the tailgate scene is epic. Is there a main area for it, or is it scattered around campus?
I've read there's an area referred to as 'Tigerland' for a main bar scene - where is this located? Or is there some other area/places my buddies and I should go (is Tigerland mainly for undergrads, or is it a good mix during game days)? We've heard that a place called Fred's is supposed to be pretty good.
Any other sights/etc. we should try to catch while we're in town? Any gameday traditions?
Thanks for any info shared - super pumped for the experience!

Walk around anywhere with anything in your hand.

Go to Chimes to eat/drink. It's in Northgate. Walk along Highland Rd and along Dalrymple Drive and you'll see basically everything you need. Mike's Cage is north of the stadium too

You can walk around with a beer can or anything you want no problem.
There are awesome tailgates all around campus: parade grounds, old front nine, all kind of good ones around the stadium.
Avoid Tigerland if you are over the 18-21 crowd.
Catch the team walk down Victory Hill, and be sure you don't miss the pregame.
Last but not least, drink heavily and scream loudly

Scattered, but I'd say stay around the stadium and "the hill"... ask people when you're there.

If you have a bus from and back to New Orleans don't look back. Tigerland is terrible on gamedays and really just for undergrads. I would say check out Chimes, but if you're just there for game day definitely just tailgate.

Just walk around, introduce yourself, and tell people you are from out of town but wanted to see the sights. You'll be treated like a damn king.

Tigerland is for undergrads. Downtown is a better area for the older crowd but you would need to take a cab or uber.

Find the biggest cajun you can and smack him on the arse. He'll love it and give you a high five.

Arrive early to campus to allow time to walk around to various tailgates.
Open container is no problem whatsoever anywhere other than trying to enter the stadium with one.
Tailgaiting is epic. Even suggest wearing your "homeland apparel" versus LSU gear in order to get the full hospitality. Some will recommend Chimes or Walk-ons on campus for gameday experience.
Must sees are Mike the Tiger's live Habitat located north of stadium next to the PMAC.
Be in this same area to witness the Golden Band from Tigerland march into the stadium down victory hill. It is epic, and think it is 2 hours prior to kickoff.

And you are able to carry open containers around campus on gameday. Chimes is the pink icon in the top right corner.

Reggies is my recommendation for after the game

I would encourage you to report back afterwards and share your experience. Interested to hear an outside perspective

The entirety of LSU's campus will be engulfed in tailgating. You don't have to look anywhere in particular. People of all denominations set up pretty generally all over campus. Fraternities typically tailgate on the parade grounds, but that's not exclusive either.
I'd recommend just walking around, you can set up shop anywhere you can find space and meet your neighbors. Once you tell them you're from out of town I'm sure they will hook you up with all you could ever want to eat. The amount of food is almost overkill, people love to give it away to impress newcomers.
Tigerland is mostly undergrads. The crowd at Fred's stretches from upper classmen to younger grad students. It's one of the few, if not the only, bar in Tigerland itself that is 21+. It would be fun for a game depending on your age. Your better bet if you're older is to check out Chimes or Walk-Ons for the game but they will likely be crowded.

I'd not wear LSU gear if you want to get more bang for free with regards to tailgaing food & booze. Out of town fans are invited to practically any/all tailgates. Wear a Cubbie's shirt perhaps. But as to eating at a restaurant like Chimes, it will be packed & you'll eat better for free just walking around the campus. And the entire campus is covered with tailgating, period. No glass ware allowed so if you are bringing hardstuff, keep the bottles in the bag. But really you should get all you can handle for free. Just move around a lot as there is a wide variety of food & drink all over.

In addition to the areas around campus already mentioned, I would walk around and through the quad, several tailgating areas that get rowdy and are friendly.
Don't just follow the streets venture off when you see large tailgates and groups of people.
If you are looking to hit up bars, just go back to New Orleans after the game if you've had enough tailgating.

Tigerdroppings puts out the times of interest for gameday activities on campus on Thursday or Friday of each home week. Here is one from a couple of weeks ago with a 6:02 kickoff, so I'd expect this week's to be very similar.

Yea...don't talk to Tigerinthehollow on this site.
It will ruin your experience.

Definitely go to Louie's at some point. It's a 24-hour diner that will not disappoint.
But in general, introduce yourself at different tailgates and you'll have a hell of a time.
