One batter, dude. And it was a ground ball single. One. Batter.
One batter is a limited amount of time, but in that one batter he allowed a hit.
Do you think he did good?
Now I wouldn’t write the book on this guy, and I’d see how he does in the future, but I haven’t seen him do anything that tells me he’s ready for a high leverage SEC situation.

This dude is the next Rollie Fingers. Get him in the game.

He would gotten smoked Sunday. If Anderson couldn’t cool them off…..not much chance Ulloa could have.

Must be uncomfortable with something. Early in the season, we’ve learned that Jay throws almost everyone in to the fire. One could argue ‘to a fault’ because he tries them and tries them again.
It’s the back half when he begins to lock in.

We seem to have this problem in every sport. Our good players sit the bench. Wd see it in football, WBB, MBB, WBB, softball and baseball. What is going on? What are the coaches thinking? The fans deserve better.
Hope this is sarcasm
:seems it is:

Not sure why this is funny. Tommy White and Hayden Travinski both struck out once last night. Should we bench them?
The point of this thread is that Ulloa has pitched very well in the lead up to conference play, he hasn't been used much at all in the first 6 SEC games, yet we keep getting run ruled on Sundays pitching other guys who hadn't pitched as well pre conference.

My point is the coaches see what these guys are doing everyday. They also have the advantage of knowing which pitches are called and whether or not they were executed properly. They know better than we do which guys have the best stuff, have command and can be counted on to deliver.
Just looking at what the radar gun says, just striking out kids in a midweek game and throwing a good inning here or there is only part of the story.
Ulloa has potential and hopefully later this year he will step up and be an effective RHed arm out of the pen. We need another one bad.

The guys they have brought in out of the bullpen in SEC play are not the guys that were pitching high leverage relief spots pre conference.
How's that been working out?

In SEC we’ve used Herring, Guidry and Ack primarily as our top relievers with the game in doubt. What do they all have in common?
Now none of those three have been lights out in every appearance, but we all know JJ has seen them do it at the highest levels.
But who should we use instead of them? Who should we use after they are used up?

That none of them have thrown a pitch on Sundays when we have been 10 run ruled twice.

I think the title of my thread implies Ulloa.

He got first crack at State after Herring tired. He did not do well, gave up a hit, and got the hook. Why so quick ip three runs, I do not know. The tying run was up to the plate and JJ wanted to change to a lefty.
He pitched ok versus Tech and JJ didn’t elect to use him this weekend versus Florida. He gave up a homer last night.
Did he do enough to get back in the SEC mix? We will see beginning Thursday.
What do you think? I think he might get a shot only if we are way down.

Do you think Jay mismanaged the entire first half of the season? Because he used Ulloa as the closer, stopper, or whatever spot you want to call where he puts in one of his best guys to stop a rally. And Ulloa succeeded in that role.
But we get to SEC play and now we have Hellmers, Litte, and Anderson getting those opportunties when none of those guys were used in that role prior to SEC play.

Ulloa has a save, a 2.70 era in 9 appearances (tied for most on the team). Overall he has done a nice job, but I never got the impression he was being elevated to closer status or even set up status. I had thought he’d be more of a situational guy.
Wd will see what happens and whether or not JJ puts him in a high leverage SEC spot.
As for Hellmers, he is more seasoned and he has a good era also. He’s been good too.
Little is way more seasoned, but he hasn’t looked good with the chances he has had after s decent start. I think he’s going to the back of the line.
Anderson excelled early, he strikes out a lot, and he has a good era. I could see him being looked at as an innings eater on a weekend.

Guessing Herring gets the start on Thursday. I would be good with Ulloa being first guy in relief.
