I would let Kade Anderson start Sunday
Hurd can be put in relief role

based on what?

He pitched 2/3 of an inning against State and gave up 3 hits and walked a batter

He then got absolutely rocked by Florida

I just listened to the latest Musso at the Box at he had a really bad take imo on Jay Johnson leaving Ack in for too long. He talked about how deep the staff was then followed it up with how you can’t replace Ack with anyone else in that situation because you have no one else you can trust.

I'm not suggesting that he take over a weekend starter role, but I do think he'd be more successful starting than how he was deployed over the weekend.

They mentioned on the broadcast that he was up getting hot several times on Saturday and then was actually brought in on Sunday. That's a hard usage pattern for some guys to get used to, especially freshmen.

Getting hot and then not pitching in the game is pretty close (from an arm care standpoint) to actually pitching in the game. And getting hot multiple times in the course of a game is hard on the arm.

It could be why he wasn't as sharp on Sunday.

Kade Anderson has pitched great in a stating role. He had never come out of the bullpen at LSU. And then in the first two SEC weekends, not only does he come in relief, but he enters mid inning with runners on base. That doesn’t really set the kid up for success.

Agreed. He should get a shot to start a sunday. Use hurd as the hammer right handed reliever out of the pen. Put him in a big leverage spot in game 1 or 2. He can go 2-4 innings easily

I mean Hindsight is 20/20 but its not like Ack was completely mowing them down. Given circumstances I wont blame him at all for the run in the 8th. But he gave up a run in the 9th to let them tie it up, let them load the bases in the 10th before working out of it and then gave up the 2 run bomb in the 11th. In 3.2 innings he gave up 5 hits and 3 walks.

After playing with fire in the 10th, it was time to try someone else. I don't have a great answer on who that someone should have been but it was clear that the UF hitters were seeing him pretty decently and the top of the order was up.

But Jay does like to experiment so maybe he wanted to see what would happen and in the post season he would have a quicker hook?

He had reached his end point on both pitches and innings by that point and it coincided with facing the heart of the order (esp Cags) a third time.

Even if there is a marginal skill reduction to the next guy, a different look from a fresh arm stood a better chance than a potential 1/1 guy seeing the same reliever a third time.

I also believe that Ack pitched too long, but we were never going to win it in extra innings unless we scored.

Hitting by far is our biggest issue.

Yep. Maybe Ack should have been done before the 11th, but we also only managed 3 hits and no runs from the 6th through the 11th inning. And outside an infield single with 2 outs in the 11th, we had no hits from the 8th inning through the end of the game

What are the coaches thinking? The fans deserve better

They are probably thinking they have seen things in practice that we dont know about, and that they have forgotten more about their sport than the fans know.

I'm not saying that coaches never make mistakes, but they more than me. If I was the coach, I would scree up more than they do.

If you truly know better, go try your hand at being a coach...

I know that I don’t know better, and if some people believe I was being serious then I bet they all believe that we have all these hidden gems on the bench that coaches can’t find.

And so far it’s been ridiculous.

Sure Ack went too long, but no one has said why.

JJ doesn’t believe in the other guys. Getting, Guidry and Ack have his trust right now. The others may look good against SLU, Xavier or another lightweight; however, that’s not State and Florida.

Loer, Ulloa, Anderson, Little, Bronzini, and Coleman have all done poorly. Heck Guidry, Herring and Ack haven't been dominating every time out.
