re: Excoriating Les Miles

Good Post. Les drives me crazy at times. The "man love" for Saban will last a long time. Personally I hate the SOB. Will never forgive him for waiting till Christmas day to announce he was leaving ... by then he knew there wasn't much left to take over his legacy. The Village Idiot won inspite of Saban's BS. Les has a good team except for one position and one coordinator. He has a good chance at Florida and Sabama if his defense holds up ... The reason ... a field goal may win both those games and who has the best kicker around?

I don't see why one has to take the side of the fans who boo and leave early OR Les Miles. I see it this way:
Fans booing and leaving early in a close game against a ranked opponent are spoiled and their actions reflect poorly on the program. They're bad fans.
Miles deserves tremendous credit for hiring Chavis, the improvement in the defense, recruiting some stellar athletes, and for the improvement in the OL and running game.
AND it is true that the offensive performance - especially in the passing game - has been disgraceful, yet Miles & Co. have done little, if anything that is perceptible to change that.
I would ask the fans to try to be good fans whose actions can make Tiger Stadium a feared place for opponents to play, and I would also Coach Miles to do something to give his team and (secondarily) the fans a reason to believe that the offense can improve and contribute to the success of a team that is elite in every other area.

Tiger fans that left the game early Saturday
Negatigers! Well put!

hopefully aren’t among those calling for Miles’ head. You lose that privilege when you aren’t willing to stay to the end of a close game against a ranked team. If you did so you are undoubtedly a faux LSU fan and probably still long for the return of Alabama’s sanctimonious head coach. Quite frankly, LSU could do without the likes of you.

Nice assessment CW.
Key Points:
The redemption is on the field and in the stats.
Miles seems to try to maintain continuity to the 2007 success. A flaw, that when coupled with his "likes to give people under him more than a fair chance to succeed", has led to Crowton AND JJ dysfunction.
These fans are an embarrassment and will do more to bring about a decline in LSU success than Miles could ever do. Miles is an excellent recruiter, a man of character and will rebuild the coaching staff to championship levels soon. That is, if the negative fan base doesn't adversely affect his recruiting efforts. I think it could go either way.
The QB dysfunction is a direct result of the RP fiasco. Miles did right to dismiss him, but it caused us to play two young men before they were ready for the SEC. Now their confidence is in question. Hopefully one rises from the ashes to lead us to a great season, and we can return to enjoying our Tigers without reservations.
For those that don't like long posts, please forgive me.
Key Points:

Spoiled LSU Tiger football fans
[quote]Defensive Coordinator Bo Pellini bolted for a head coaching gig at the University of Nebraska, leaving a gaping hole in LSU Football’s coordinator pool. Instead of hiring a proven commodity as Pellini’s replacement, Miles, in an unprecedented move, promoted two defensive coaches on his staff to co-defensive coordinator status.
quote:
2009 Miles replaced the co-coordinator tandem with the singular presence of John Chavis.
The redemption is on the field and in the stats.
quote:
Then, in an uneasy move Miles chose to keep the embattled Gary Crowton, and bring in wide receivers and quarterbacks coach Billy Gonzales from the University of Florida, to help coordinate the passing game. Upon second thought, Gonzales’ hire sounds a lot closer to being a dual coordinator scenario than anyone would please to admit.
Miles seems to try to maintain continuity to the 2007 success. A flaw, that when coupled with his "likes to give people under him more than a fair chance to succeed", has led to Crowton AND JJ dysfunction.

When the ESPN commentator Saturday night against West Virginia remarked in the fourth quarter that thousands of LSU fans had left the game early, the camera panned across the sparsely attendant crowd showing what could have only been the seats of fair-weather fans.

Another great article Chris! To the newbs who like to say cool things like "too long" or "cliff notes" - STFU!! He's been doing this for years.
Best part:

LSU is a much better football team than they were a year ago. Someone did some major coaching and motivating during the offseason. It is abundantly clear. I am certain the Tigers will finish with a better record than they did a year ago. I understand, unfortunately, that this may not be enough for Miles to keep his job. He could go 11-2 with losses to Alabama and Florida and a New Year’s bowl victory and Tiger fans would continue to deride and excoriate him unmercifully. He may seriously contemplate his departure from Tiger Town.

Everyone seems to be over looking this because of the QB play, but you can tell this team is better this yr than last.

The fact that Les Miles has won as many games as he has, is unblemished in terms of losses this season, and still is referred to by LSU fans as an “idiot,” a “moron” and a “buffoon,” speaks volumes to the ultimate reason why Les Miles just may leave LSU if given the opportunity. Tiger fans should be extremely careful what they wish for.
Yeah, because his first game against tennessee, when we were up 21-0 and lost 28-21 at the end of the game was pure genius. Or not knowing how many time outs we had last year. Or the fact that we were 5-0 last year before we started losing.... I sure hope there is a coloring section, or that your pages are 2-ply, because if this is any example of your writing, the bathroom awaits...

I think paying the TAF fees and the raise in ticket prices after last season, gives us the right to leave whenever the hell we want.

Of course this is a free country. You are still a bad fan and the program could do without you.

Do you people really cry when people leave early? I have nothing to prove about my die-hardness of LSU football. I've been a die hard as long as i can remember. I've held season tickets since 2000 (minus 1 or 2 years right after college), so calling me a "bad fan" doesn't bother me. And i really doubt that "the program" lives and dies whether or not i left at the end of the 3rd because our offense is atrocious. If it has, i guess they ought to start paying me to come to the games. I just think that everyone seems to forget the past 2 years, because last year, you bitches were saying the same thing. "at least we are undefeated, i don't know why your so upset".
And look how well those 2 seasons turned out...

It's been five years since Tennessee after Katrina and Rita, for Lord's sake.
Ole Miss from last season was a much greater example of poor game-time coaching and clock management than that UT game in 2005.

Wow, a truly compelling argument. Must have taken a long drawn out thought process to come up with such eloquant and researched poetry.

Did we play 4 BCS schools to start last years season? Did we play 2 ranked teams in the first 4 weeks last season? Did we have one of the hardest schedules in the first 4 games of ANYONE else in college football?
Opponents current records
North Carolina: 1-2
Vanderbilt: 1-2
Miss. State: 2-2
West Virginia: 3-1
Their Opponents
UNC - Lsu, Ga. Tech, Rutgers
Vanderbilt - Northwestern, LSU, Ole Miss
Miss. State - Memphis, Auburn, LSU, Georgia
West Virginia - Coastal Carolina, Marshall, Maryland, LSU
Not exactly the cream of the crop.

Sigh.
According to Sagarin, nobody in the SEC has played a tougher schedule than Vandy and LSU.

Forgive me if I put more faith in Jeff Sagarin's ability to determine how strong a schedule is than in your lame arse attempt to do so.

My wisdom is do not let it bother you, you can not change what in the hell people do. If they paid money and want to boo at a game, you can't make them quit. So why let it upset you so?
Just go and enjoy the game and if it bothers you, then cheer louder than they can boo, drown them out.
