For me, the band has been a bright spot in the midst of the recent disappointments on the field.

Do people really take the band this seriously?

Good luck Linda. I used to serve her yogurt back in the 1980s before she made the deal with satan to never age.

This is the email that is circulating:

From: Linda Moorhouse

Subject: Next Year

Dear all:
It is with heavy heart that I announce to you my decision to leave LSU for the University of Illinois beginning this fall. As many of you may know I have been associated with the LSU Band program since the fall of 1984 when I served as a Graduate Assistant, and then was hired onto the faculty the next year in the fall of 1985. For the last 25 years, my energies and priorities have been dedicated to the LSU Band program. The decision to leave was prompted by (1) an unsolicited and unexpected offer to join the UI band division two weeks ago, and (2) the realization of my situation here at LSU.

Most of you know we had a difficult time finding a replacement for Frank’s position last year (the search will continue this year). The announcement of “Director of Tiger Band” made this past spring was done to help alleviate fears of “change.” As it turns out, the title change does not enhance my position at LSU, nor does the offer from Illinois. The UI band program is the oldest program in the country with an unparalleled history, and the UI School of Music is very respected. I am being hired for my artistic skills as a conductor and teacher, and will not have any responsibilities with their marching band. I will conduct the UI Wind Orchestra (there are six concert ensembles) and teach conducting. The UI Band Division has been in transition since the retirement of their Director of Bands two years ago. Last year they hired a new Director of Bands, who is the person who contacted me about the job two weeks ago. I am flattered and excited they want me as an integral part of their future.
I will always hold a special place in my heart for LSU, and especially you, the students. You are the reason the program is what it is, and I know you will continue to support Roy and the Band Department this next year. Please know I am a better person and teacher having worked with you…I will miss you and the program immensely.

All my best –

Dr. M

Good that bitch needs to GTFO. My roommate in college was a Golden Girl and one day at practice Linda poked her in the stomach and told her she needs to watch what she eats. My friend is like 5'8 130 lbs.

She won't be missed.

Not the first story I have heard like this... I don't know anyone that likes or respects her.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about.

Dr. Moorhouse was always well respected around the School of Music. Yes, she and the other band directors policed the Golden Girls: they sign a contract agreeing to stay within five pounds of their weight upon auditioning. She has written most if not all of the field show drill for many years, including when we won the battle of the bands.

Nobody said it was the apocalypse, but it could have a detrimental effect on the quality of the band, which up until now has been the best in the SEC.

I'm sure there's somebody else on the planet who can do a job as good as Wicks and Moorhouse.

In reading the e-mail, the offer from Illinois did not enhance her position at LSU in that they did not make a counteoffer that would match or exceed what Illinois offered.

Can't say I blame her for pulling out.

However, come tomorrow, the sun will still rise.

If it were my money, I would go after the band director at Northwestern State at Natchitoches. He is turning out a pretty good production up there.
