I hate them both, but I was starting to get into Arky as that last game...there always seems to be something on the line when we play them. Right now, I'd rather play Arky.

I want A&M. It could really help ignite the old LSU-A&M rivalry. Also Arky seems to play badly early in the season and then pick up steam later in the year when LSU finally plays them. I think it would be cool to get em knocked out early on in the season.

I'll take the Aggies over the Piggies any damn day of the week. Better fans IMO less meth.

You just can't end a 100 year rivalry with a snap of the fingers. I think both schools talk about each other in their fight songs. Which would sound pretty stupid now for Texas A&M to continue to do that.

actually their fight song may make a little more sense now. Goodbye to texas university. Goodbye to the orange and the white.

A&M's main rival will always be Texas.

so what. you know a bunch of schools have two rivals. I don't think I need to list them all.

LSU will at best be second fiddle just like we are to Alabama vs Auburn.

Actually after Bama/ Auburn, I'd say Bama/Tenn or Auburn/UGA would be above LSU.

I agree. There are a lot of good reasons to prefer A&M and according to the other poster it's about necessity and not preference, but it's a shame the Arkansas end of year rivalry is ending just when it's getting good and Arkansas is becoming more than just a spoiler. The current players were about 5 years old when LSU and A&M played annually.

I had a great time last year. Tailgating was excellent, lots of cochon de lait. Where else will you see this?

A&M is an actual rival and not "forced"..still not sure why we stopped playing in early 90's...I for one am glad to have them back! Bye Arky...have your rival with Mizzou now!

LSU called it quits after they got tired of A&M handing them their asses 5 years in a row. Backed out of the contract and used conference expansion as an excuse.

A & M. More tradition with the Aggies.

In light of this Thursday or Friday business, who do you, as an LSU fan want as this forced rival?

I would prefer to have the game on Friday or Saturday rather than any time on Thursday. As for the opponent, I would rather play A&M. It would be the big featured game in Texas for that weekend every year, which would maximize its impact on our recruiting in Texas.

We backed out of the EXTENSION of the contract. The original 10-year contract was completed. And yes, conference expansion and the 8th SEC game had a lot to do with it. With four guaranteed away games in the SEC, we could not afford (while Joe Dean was around) to play a road game outside the conference every other year. We still played the last four years of the original 10-year contract after expansion, though. Funny thing is, by the time we actually got to the end of that contract, the 1996 season was upcoming and A&M was part of the new Big XII, which also played 8 conference games, so they probably would have wanted to end it by then, too.

In any event, Texas A&M is lucky that the series ended when it did. We would have dominated it between 1996 and 2011, based on the relative quality of the two teams during that time.

Frankly, this Aggie could care less if we ever play Texas again and I know a lot of Ags (and Horns) that feel that way right now. I know that sounds weird, and feelings will probably subside over time, but the way they tried to villify us in the legislature and in the media, those vag stained pieces of shite can go rot with the likes of Iowa State, Baylor and Kansas.

My focuse is squarely on the East, particularly LSU, Arkansas and Alabama.

There's too much tradition and history between LSU and A&M for this not to be on rivalry weekend at the end of the year.

We overlap in industry, we are neighbors in Houston, Dallas, Beaumont, Lafayette, New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We have a 50 year history. We both treat drinking as a sport.

What's not to like about this game on the last weekend of the year?

A&M. Much more "rival potential". Arkansas it too far away. Due to the Oil industry and agricultural overlap, there are a lot more inter-relations between A&M grads and LSU grads, and it just seems more like a rivalry. After all the years of the Boot and all, the game took on no more significance than it would have otherwise, and the significance was totally based on Arky being the spoiler to LSU.

If Arky gets 2 losses to Bama and LSU early in the season then their fans will be a lot more bearable. I'd rather not be their Super Bowl every year tbh

eaTme

While the Arky game has become a good one, I have no real feeling for those guys or their fans.

I really dislike the Ags and have since LSU routinely played them in the 80's.

My only issue is to not have it fall on Thanksgiving Day. Assuming we care about being in a position to play for SECW Title each year and a trip to Atlanta, a Thursday game against a quality opponent within our division at the end of the year is no way to go about that. It either means LSU has a short week to prepare, or it means we somehow get to set our open date the week before, which would mean LSU would be forced to play 11 games in a row before hitting the bye week.

Regardless of the Holiday issues, this just isn't smart...and if eaTme is in any way part of making this happen, I'll hate them even more.

No, we were very upset when LSU ended the game, but we acknowledge that they had every right to if they wanted. Ags really want to play LSU...We respect your team, fans, school, food, culture, and we're very excited about joining your conference in 22 days.

Re: the Aggie War Hymn (our 'fight song') we sing that every game against any opponent, including LSU back from '86-'95. I get that this may be counter-intuitive to non-Aggies, but when we sing that song, it's about us, not about the sips, and it fits perfectly appropriate to continue singing it just the way we have for decades.

I'm sensitive to you guys' family time on Thanksgiving, and also t.u. will probably play on Thanksgiving in that same time slot, which also now has an NFL game, too, so I'm not sure on which day it will be played. However, in Texas, families just fold it in to our Thanksgiving celebration with our families, and it's not ever been complained about to my knowledge, by anybody's family members. In fact, lots of Ags aren't gonna know what to do with themselves after the Cowboy game in the afternoon if we're not playing the sips or whomever. If it happens, once you and your families adjust, it'll become a part of that great holiday, and my guess is that you love it! Geaux Tigers, and Gig 'Em.
