Over 17 catches easy, the dude understands how to win the jump ball and his hands are excellent.

He is easily the best pass catching TE on the roster, and prob has better hands than anyone on the team outside of Jarvis Landry. RIGHT NOW

you think he has better hands than Wright or Boone? Both those guys are more physically ready to play TE than Desean Smith is right now. Right now he is more like a relatively big WR than a TE

He'll be a huge player IMO when he plays. He's still small for a TE in college, especially in the SEC.

Moffitt needs to work his magic on him and then let's turn him loose.

He has amazing hands and he's already had a surgery on one of his shoulders (while he was in high school) and his hands got even better. I forget the details about it but I remember seeing a story about him on the local news when Barbe was going to the state championship.

Why do you feel the need to put the same two cents into every football thread?

Hopefully his presents are good enough for the safeties to just look the other way when he runs by.

Saw it! Was hoping to be the first with a retort.

That's a classic malapropism!

Not really. I call my son by the dogs name sometimes. Me mixing names of kids on a high school football team that I've never personally met isn't a stretch.

Relax, man. These guys have nothing else in their lives. "Proving" that they're superior to another poster validates them.

If the use of tight ends in the Lsu offense doesn't change with Cam being here it wont matter. In the past TE's are usually blockers.

Wait. Are you saying whenever he is standing on the ground with his arms extended over his head, 5A DBs could not jump high enough to touch his hands?

Either Desean Smith is 8 feet tall or DBs are getting less athletic.

He has 3 veteran TE's who know the plays and are more ready to block in front of him.

At WR, he has Leslie, Landry, and OBJ who will start. After that he has to compete with vets like Wright and Boone, and talented WRs like Diarse and Tural(sp).

He just wont see significant time to make a big impact. As already stated, he needs some time to improve at blocking. The magic about TEs is that they can do multiple things and therefore stress the defense. Smith would be well served to not worry about playing time this year in order to improve his game.

or create mis matches in the passing game against LB's and safeties. Trust me, this kid is a mismatch regardless if he is not a strong blocker at this point.

Have you ever seen him play?

honestly, he could weigh 6'4" 240 by the time August rolls around.

Which works best when he is a good blocker, if not then he is just another one of our very talented wrs and the defense has the option to go to nickle/dime and not worry about the extra blocker on the line.

If smith comes in at a good weight and can block, he might get good pt. I just doubt that. Why would the staff waste a spot on a juco te if smith was ready.?

Desean Smith could be a huge difference maker in his first year...
he wont even see the field this year.

we signed a juco TE this year.

cant you guys read between the lines?

Juco guy, big body blocker, less of a catcher.

the loss of Nick Jacobs. Chase Clement graduating.

Travis Dickson limited reps at the position

It wasn't deep to begin with. It's definitely a need.

No one is saying Smith should come in and start. But he's too good not to get some playing time.
