This article from 2006 listed him as 35 years old.

LINK

My math sucks, but I believe that would make him 50 or 51 tops.

I’m not saying that’s a bad thing at all for LSU to be like that just pointing out what he will have to think about. LSU is the only school in the nation where someone with CPM’s resume would have the fanbase wanting him fired.

Suppose his contract ended this season and everyone still wants him gone/non-renewed for poor performance post-2017 season? I would believe multiple top-tier programs would want the HC fired in the same scenario (an ongoing post-2017 slump) if the buyout wasn't huge. The number of non-competitive L's vs 2021 SEC competition is ridiculous and inability to close out close games they should be able to win (yeah, it's "baseball" but the numbers are telling). I don't see him returning LSU to a consistent top-4 SEC team if he continues.

Thats a fair point. We could double vitellos salary and he would likely be more enticed to leave.

Vitello is the only SEC coach we should be interested in

Playing Devil's Advocate, why would Vitello leave Knoxville for Baton Rouge? He's building a SEC contender with better facilities, and frankly Baton Rouge is becoming a septic tank. I can see McConnell, just don't why Vitello would leave Tennessee.

Vitello makes 600k. He could upgrade to a better program, better facilities, bigger recruiting budget, and could double or triple his salary

No, i wouldnt mind him. He is in my top 3 wishes. But he is an east carolina alum and PMs friend. So it may be tougher. On the plus side his salary is peanuts for us to increase

I feel like we could get him at a reasonable price and in all honesty is #1 on my list.

#1 Godwin
#2a Vitello
#2b McDonnnell
#3 David Pierce (he should get a call if the above 3 fail)
#4 Bakich

do you want to leave 1.05 mil guaranteed for the rest of your life

So, if he lives to be 100, the University is contractually obligated to pay him over a million dollars per year, even when he is in his 90’s? GTFO.

Mcdonnell
Great coach and Built Lousville from the ground up and by the looks of it can recruit as well

Vietello
Great recruiter he’s hungry to win and also built up a program from the ground up

Get the young guy! At fifty years old, the hustle window is almost always closing.

Interesting that Paul and Dan were both hired about 12 hours apart at LSU & Louisville in 2006. June 28th, 2006 they were both introduced as head coaches of their schools

Not saying LSU can't pay him, but he likely has the best contract over its full term in college baseball.
Woodward will pay him what he desires to come here if that's the man he wants! (And if it's who "We the Rant" want and approve of the choice. )

$$$$$$ will not be a problem for whomever accepts the challenge of returning LSU Baseball back to it's rightful place at the Zenith of College Baseball...... (Look at what SJW SW just paid KIM)

Why the love affair with McDonnell?
I don't get it.

My first choice would be Jim Schlossnagle of TCU.
He's been to Omaha five times and his TCU team is currently ranked No. 3 in the country by D1 Baseball.

It would draw applause throughout the college baseball world if LSU named him as its next head coach.
