McDonnell has way more experience, but Vitello is intriguing since he is only 42. I kinda like going with the younger, up and coming guy. It'd be similar to how we hired Wade years ago.

How old is McDonnell? Gotta be early 50s right?

Dan McDonnell was a teammate of Mississippi States current head, Chris Lemonis, at The Citadel on their 1990 College World Series team.

That Citadel team went 1-2 in Omaha, losing to LSU twice.

Either McDonnell or Vietello would be fine, far preferable to Paul.

But aren’t there even others that deserve consideration?

McDonnell or Vitello are top tier of ones that would take the job
I don’t think other top names are leaving their Alma Maters

Vitello is the only SEC coach we should be interested in

He played college ball from 1989 to 1992 so if he started college in the fall of 1988 at 18 years old he's 51.

His contract is significantly better than $1.05M/yr + guaranteed raises and significant bonuses the longer he remains there. Not saying LSU can't pay him, but he likely has the best contract over its full term in college baseball.

But basically on a lifetime contract. I know LSU can pay him more but do you want to leave 1.05 mil guaranteed for the rest of your life for say 2 million at a school that you will consider firing you for not winning enough in Omaha specifically. Don’t care about how many wins you have everywhere else.

I’m not saying that’s a bad thing at all for LSU to be like that just pointing out what he will have to think about. LSU is the only school in the nation where someone with CPM’s resume would have the fanbase wanting him fired.
