Curious lack of respect for this LSU team.

In all of my decades of watching college football I don't think I have ever seen a concensus #1 team be taken for granted as much as the 2011 Tigers. About the best you read is "they win in spite of". Our opponents (especially Alabama and Oregon) beat themselves, we don't beat them. You continually hear how opponents we beat earlier in the year have gotten better but no mention that we have. By any objective measure we are a championship team: strength of schedule, outstanding defense and special teams and a an offense more than capable of conrolling the line of scrimmage over the course of 60 minutes. I don't think there is any big conspiracy. I don't think the media hates LSU. I do think the media can't get fully behind LSU because like most championship teams we don't have a QB who is marketable. Don't get me wrong...I can do the "us against the world" thing just fine. One thing is for sure...after we win the next three games nobody can say it was handed to us, we backed into it or there should be co-champions. Maybe then we will get full recognition. If not, I will enjoy buying my third championship trophy and putting it on my mantel and looking at all three every night.

LSU is the UNANIMOUS #1 team in EVERY poll and ranking. LSU has a perfect 1.0000 BCS score.
Everyone is talking about who will play LSU in the BCS CG
and yet...and yet...and yet....SOME LSU fans STILL have the insecurity complex.
I just don't get it. Smile. Breathe in the bouquets. Get over the need for constant praise.

im with ya, it really makes no sense
i dont know if these talking heads just dont watch the games or what
and it's baffling to hear over and over how lsu doesnt have an offense, yet we've scored 35+ pts in every game except 2

I agree fully! Best LSU team I've seen in my 45 years of watching LSU football. And if we win out, should be touted as one of the best college football teams ever! TEAM.

Relax! I for one don't mind the "thinly vailed negativity" when the Talking Heads talk about LSU and their victories. I feel this helps the TIGERS out. They have been focused for every game so far and I can't think this Friday will be any different. Besides once all the dust is settled and the TIGERS win the BCS for this year it will be said that this TIGER football team will be the best in NCAA History. They will have the schedule and the ranked teams they faced to prove it! "NUFF SAID!"

They get plenty of respect. When I saw the Oregon game, I thought "oh shite" they're not just good.. they play with VIOLENCE!!!! Yeah ya'lls offense is less than impressive at times so that gives the critics something to harp on, but in the end ya'll can just lin up and cram it up anyone's A@#!

I am relishing this season. I tell my younger son to be very aware of how rare it is for LSU to have the decade we have had. On the one hand, I guess I am talking about the national media as a whole...the talking heads. I quit listening to them weeks ago and don't let them get me riled up. I'm not whining or complaining. I don't need others (including the talking heads) approval to enjoy how special this team is. It did title this curious, becuase I do find it curious. It's hard to convey tone in writing. As I said, this has been my favorite LSU season since I began watching LSU football in the 1960s and when we sweep through the rest of the season I will savor this season until I part this earth. It's just that the media-types often tend to go to the other extreme and heap too much praise on a player or a team. Heck, Sports Illustrated did an article earlier in the season with the title "Best Defense Ever" - referring to the Bama defense. I don't see that kind of drooling over LSU. I honestly don't care what others think. I do know that my family and I are having the fall of our lives.

it's because we don't win with flash, plain and simple. we run a bunch of different guys out there and spread the ball around. we are a team of a different era that just keeps winning. if we had a big time playmaker on offense that garnered media attention, it would be different. who cares really. gives the players an extra chip on their shoulder every week and doesn't let them get complacent listening to the media jerk them off every week.

I agree that one of the key factors is that LSU doesn't have a true "star" that the media can focus on. Most of the highly ranked teams have a star QB or RB that the media can drool over. LSU, under both Saban and Miles, has risen to the top with depth on the roster, efficient, but unspectacular QBs, running back by committee, outstanding defenses, etc., but not flashy Heisman Trophy candidates. The media likes to hype individual players and doesn't quite know how to deal with a team like LSU.

When LSU is 14-0, every pundit will be blowing LSU to no end.
In the meantime, they need to find something else to rile it up. Blowing LSU right now is unimportant.

yep, the media doesn't know how to analyze a true TEAM that can just replace starters and no one seeing any sort of drop off. We could easily keep the same guys out there all game and inflate their stats, but why do that when you can run 4-5 guys out at the same position and keep them all fresh the entire game. I think the media also hasn't quite bought into Les being as good of a coach as he is. I feel like they've been waiting for him to fail, and until he wins another title, things won't change.
