No, not really. Wild tigers have a much shorter life span and numerous health issues Mike doesn't deal with. As the post says:

Increased lifespan is not necessarily equal to overall quality of life. Look, I love zoos and the Mike tradition at LSU. However, any captive animal is prevented from doing things that they are naturally programmed to do. Wild Tigers roam for many miles and hunt for their prey. While he is given stimulation to help with his prey drive, it's not the same as hunting. Additionally, the larger enclosure helps with his need to wander but he is still only able to pace.

I recognize that he is given phenomenal care, and lives without the pressures of habitat loss and poaching. There are pros and cons to both situations. I just disagree that any captive tiger is 100% better off than every tiger in the wild.

That's fair. I guess it depends on what factors you weigh higher than others in regard to quality of life. In any sense, it's not like we'll be capturing one from the wild, so it's a moot point.

Frick PETA, tell them to ride down the road to the Tiger Truck Stop if they really want something to bitch about.

Indeed. I really hope they are able to secure one quickly.

This really is possibly the WORST example PETA could ever pick for the mistreatment of a captive animal. Their energies would most obviously be best served elsewhere which all the more reaffirms that they are reaching for publicity and really hurts whatever credibility they have left. I was far more entertained by them throwing animal blood and feces on rich hollywood snobs. Wont make many enemies doing that shite these days.

I'm not evening addressing the other side of this who thinks LSU kidnaps tiger cubs in remote India. Just find a tiger. This is an incredible tradition. Can't let this die.

Just keep desperately holding onto that uninformed opinion.

actually I hope they find and get one..... It is in fact going to be more difficult than it has been in the past.

Obviously dumb question is obvious, but, if a female was available, would LSU pass?

Sorry, there is no more a reputable living arrangement or institution for a tiger than LSU.

If I were an exotic animal organization with tigers, I would do anything I could to place one of my tigers at LSU (all homerism aside) because I would know there is no place else in the world where he would have better treatment.

Good lord. How many times is that biased hit piece going to be regurgitated. Every person quoted in that article has ties to PETA or sister organizations that try to advance the same ideas that PETA has. That article is incredibly one-sided and total junk as far as meeting journalistic standards.

Doubling down on the idiocy. Bold strategy.
