I don't necessarily agree with that (on the defensive side). LSU has generally played well against teams like AU and A&M. MSU is a "spread" team, but make no mistake, they want to spread you out and pound you up the middle (sounds like a penthouse forum letter!!) Right now LSU is getting beat right in the heart of their defense. I actually worry more about teams like Bama and Ark. who are just going to push LSU around, as opposed to teams like AU and A&M.

I'll disagree with the substitution point. If TF Davon Godchaux is starting, that tells me the other linemen aren't good. Also disagree with the adjustment part. We were simply getting manhandled. I know that's strange to say because it hasn't haplened in forever, but there aren't adjustments to make when you're outgunned.
I am concerned about the fact we have no confidence in 3-4 of our DT's. As to Chavis and adjustments, I thought back to John Bond (funny how they mentioned him Sat. night) who just seemed to have our number. Prescott sliced & diced our D.

He's known as one of the best at making adjustments at halftime and he did absolutely nothing. Not to mention the appaling lack of not substituting when we were getting gashed. Every coach needs to be held accountable. Not just miles, but also cam and chief.

a D cord can't do anything about missed assignments, getting dominated up front.

there are plenty of valid complaints about Chief and the defense, no need to just make shite up. he left UT in 2008 when Fulmer was fired; his defense was ranked 3rd in the NCAA that year.

Our defensive line got their shite pushed in at home. The buck stops at the D-coordinator. He doesn't need more blame; he deserves all the blame.

I love Chief, but you can't credit a man for success and not credit him for his failures.

Chavis starting Welter is actually having the D play with 10 men.

I do not get it and not one person on this board has a concrete explanation for it.

Every coach @ LSU can see it. All fans can see it

I have also seen numerous quotes about how predictable Chavis' plan is.

He's probably been running the same defensive scheme since his days at Tennessee. When he has talent that he can work it, it succeeds, but he's not gonna surprise any opposing OCs. I was very surprised to hear one of the guys on the post-game radio show say that the game may have passed him by.

We outscored them 26-17 in the second half and 19-3 in the final quarter. Statistically sounds like adjustments were made.

Who is? Miles? Miles seems to actually be on edge about the defense admitting he thought beckwith should and will get more play time. he was inderictly slamming the defense. I fully expect beckwith to be it from here on out.

Chavis absolutely deserves blame. That 3rd and 10 conversion after we scored on the fumble was unacceptable and was a huge, huge factor in the game. LSU had all of the momentum for that brief time, had we not given up that 3rd down, we would have gotten the ball back, down 17-10 in good field position.

We gave up 570 total yards. Against Mississippi State. That is a huge concern talent-wise. We should never get dominated at the line by freaking Mississippi State.

We have to do a better job of recruiting DTs. I'm not sure what happened, LSU used to have the best DTs.

Right now, the talent is in the younger guys. Sure Mills is sometimes out of place, but he's the best player in the secondary. I won't bag on White, but let's just say he is not the best. Kwon is good, Hunter is good, not great, but good. Rasco is servicable. The talent is in the younger players though IMO. Take our lumps with the younger guys this year, and come back experienced, and loaded.

YES!!! Thank you! Somebody gets it.

Quit playing the older guys with limited upside since they're not getting the job done. Play the younger, more talented guys. This probably will be a season that produces nothing more than a minor bowl, so get the most talented guys some experience. Get the DJ Welters off the field for good.

It was mind-blowing to watch them stay in nickel and dime with the middle of the field open on short-yardage plays. They finally went back to the base defense in the 4th quarter but by then the damage was done.

you say "spread" like it's one thing, or new. it's neither. LSU has easily handled pass-first spread teams like TAM and WV.

a run-first spread like Oregon, Auburn, the old Florida teams, and MSU, is simply a better offense, its the only type of spread that can actually beat good teams. LSU had little trouble with Oregon or AU last year, and went 50-50 vs Florida.

so in reality it was just this one game that sucked. one game vs a good coach with a big, strong 4th year junior at QB. obviously that one game was shockingly awful, but its still just one game.
