he was kind of a big deal and kind of a big, bruising tailback

And what? Quit referencing players you didn't see &/or were not old enough to have any knowledge about.

Cecil would destroy Scott in a scouting combine if they were both in their prime. I'm surprised to see you say this.

Great. How often did you see him play in person as sloflo is claiming? Do you reference Jim Brown alot in your posts?

Actually Cecil ran something like a 4.41 and 4.43 at the NFL Combine.

ETA: I'll try to find a link if I can.

there's a washington post article that has him listed at 4.43, but they're off on a bunch of their times

SI Article has him at 4.41

quote:

Collins, 5-foot-10, 208 pounds, worked with a personal trainer when he got out of jail in January. At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, he clocked a 4.41 in the 40-yard dash after only six weeks of training.

ETA: I remember him really re-committing himself before the Combine. For what it's worth, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right on with a 4.55-4.6 time while he was at McNeese.

i mean shite if cecil was THAT great he would have done SOMETHING in the NFL, pre-stalking

he was quite mediocre and couldn't beat out other mediocre RBs in Miami as a rookie

Ask Jimmy Johnson if Cecil was mediocre. I seem to remember him saying Cecil was the most talented back he had ever coached. The only thing that kept Cecil from being a starter in the NFL was his behavior.

No, it's best if you don't. Anyway, you are getting older by the second. Next week you could be born in 1972..

SI is always bad when it comes to guys' 40s

for example

that was just off the top of my head. their worst was listing rudi johnson at like 4.66 when he was a 4.55 guy

yeah i saw him play for mcneese where his sample got bigger and he didn't look that special

Perhaps, you were unclear.

I thought it was a fair conclusion given you didn't seem to know (or acknowledge) his off field issues or his injury question marks. In fact, you even went so far as to use his draft position (5th round) vs. Scott's projected draft position (unknown) as proof that he is not as good a RB. Pretty much everyone who knows anything about Cecil Collins and the NFL draft knows that Cecil dropped in the draft due to the the off field issues and injury concerns.

I'm not trying to change your mind. You can go ahead believing that Scott is the better back. I disagree. And I don't think it's close.

dude around the time he got drafted, lawrence phillips was drafted in the top 10

it was a different NFL, and "off field issues" weren't really punitive

My point is u don't need to see someone in person to make a determination how good someone was. I don't reference Jim Brown, but I do measure the great NFL backs today to his standard. That fricker was a truck.

I've been an LSU fan for almost 40 years, and I'm a student of LSU football history. Spent time with Gus Tinsley, Y.A. Tittle, you name it.

Trust me when I say this... Cecil Collins, had he been able to actually complete his career at LSU, would have been the best RB in this school's history.

He was electrifying. Fast, powerful, agile. This is a guy who in three games pretty much put Kevin Faulk (our actual greatest RB) on the bench.

In case you've forgotten:

Now, all that being said... he was an a-hole.

Charles Scott couldn't be more different. Scott is a VERY good-natured and friendly person. I think people would like him even more than they do if they knew this side of him. What a great ambassador of LSU.

There are like 5 or 6 other articles that quote the same time (either 4.41 or 4.42). One of them comes from the same AP article as the SI report, but the others are different. And I can't find an official 1999 NFL Combine list.

Absolutely not true! Then how do we know how good USC most of us haven't seen them live. The jury is still out on Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, etc,etc...since I haven't seen them live.
