CFN's Thoughts

quote:

The other key factor is that while he has the lion's share of the experience, Jefferson is maybe marginally better than the backups. Jarrett Lee and Zach Mettenberger may not be starters today, but that isn’t to say two rough games by Jefferson wouldn't have been enough to give either a shot. LSU has a starter in name only; no QB on the LSU roster makes the team materially better or worse. All three are interchangeable.

I agree.

This won't go over well with the jizzLee faction.

How can anyone conclude they're interchangeable?

thats all wrong. jj can run the ball and create plays and give the defense something else to worry about. jl is a sitting duck.

Do writers at CFN have any level of analytical thinking to understand distinctions with three very different quarterbacks?

Somehow I think Lee will have the offense ranked higher than 109 in the country by the end of the yr.

But Zach Mettenberger is the most talented throwing the ball out of all three. The reason he doesn't start, this overrated cliche' term called, "experience."

Gabe Harris' comments are ridiculous. Jefferson is one of the LSU's 2 most dynamic offensive playmakers and Lee lacks arm strength? Guy is clueless

He's right. QB's job at LSU is to not lose games. Let the defense and running game win it.

Yeah what a joke

Exactly. While I'm not saying that he's Mauck or Flynn. What I will say is that, if Lee can cut down on the turn overs and complete half his passes, LSU will be fine. From what I remember, neither Mauck nor Flynn were runners either.

ummm, I wouldn't call em "runners" (at least in their respective last yrs), but they could def make plays with their feet. we can manage with a guy that doesn't do that though.

For all the talk about JUCO transfer Zach Mettenberger taking over the ship, he has barely registered a blip on the radar this fall. Fifth year senior Jarrett Lee is the quarterback head coach Les Miles is most comfortable with, especially on this short notice so he will start the Oregon game. It has been Lee sharing first-team snaps with Jefferson this week in practice. What does this mean for the offense? It could look a lot like last year’s in terms of consistency, with one big exception - Lee is significantly less mobile than Jefferson. Throughout his career, Lee has struggled to put together four good quarters, and there are questions about his arm strength. If you combine Jefferson's absence with talented WR Russell Shepard’s suspension, arguably the two most dynamic offensive players are now gone for the Tigers. LSU will try to control the clock with its running game and very experienced offensive line, and mix in a little play-action to keep defenses honest. This puts the onus on the running backs, a talented but very inexperienced unit since Stevan Ridley is now in the NFL. The depth chart shows three sophomores and a freshman, with a combined 89 carries in their college careers. They better grow up quickly, as they are about to get a crash course in Nine Men in the Box 101

this part is just plain awful - lee's arm strength? mettenberger hasn't been a blip on the radar because of who decides what blips get shown to the media..

I dunno. Jefferson and Lee are about as good as each other, but in very different ways. That's not the same as being interchangeable.

I think we'll see a much better performance out of Lee just because I think our O Line is so much better than it was in 08 and 09. He obviously has trouble facing heavy pressure, but he throws such a pretty pass. If the improved OL is able to keep him upright he could have a good year.

Maybe Krags taught him how to throw the ball away instead of a sack.....

Maybe our experienced O line will protect him better...
