Anyone recall what the issues may have been?
Seems like a player coach and he's known as an excellent recruiter. Was he a poor game manager. Did he hire bad assistant coaches?
Can he possibly overcome whatever deficiencies he had at Ole Miss and be highly successful at LSU as a permanent head coach?

It was also his first crack at being a head coach. He admitted today, he didn't let his coaches coach. He messed with areas he wasn't familiars with as opposed to letting those who know the positions/situations best handle it.

He said himself that he tried to have too much influence over the team.. even with the offense.. which he admitted he knew nothing about..

He said he has learned from it and to allow coaches to coach.. which is why he had his success taking over at USC.

Ole miss hasn't won an sec title in 50 years. Cut life did well there with Manning. They have been terrible for the most part. Something changed with Freeze...probably paying recruits

This. And, he said in the Presser that he did not delegate enough. First time HC and he wanted to be involved with EVERYTHING.

He now recognizes that he has strengths and weaknesses and delegates to coaches to do their jobs and hold THEM accountable for results.

It's pretty well known that his players didn't care much for him while he was at Ole Miss. It seems like he's changed his demeanor since then.

Coach O also has a lot better staff here at LSU then he had with the Black Bears. The only real issue with the staff here is how badly CLM handcuffed his OC. People knock BDP but he was voted Special Teams Coach of the Year last yr & is one of our better recruiters. And he was having to build a program from the ground up. Here he is not starting from scratch. But, yea, t when he ripped off his shirt in front of the big boosters & challenged them down in a 3 point stance was not one of his better moments. Cann't wait to see him lead the team down The Hill !

WAAAAT? You have an extremely short memory on how terrible our special teams were last year. Wrong person. That was Joe Rob that won that award years ago.

Ole' Miss was an absolute bottom feeder back then. They have advanced light years since he coached them.

He failed there but, he did quite well at USCw. You never know, he might salvage the season and win the job.

I'm optimistic about him in a number of ways. lets give him a fair shot.

I read Bruce Feldman's book, "Meat Market", and it appears that Coach O was insane at the time. Insane and jacked up on obscene amounts of caffeine. Challenging people to hand to hand combat on a regular basis. Not a great recipe for winning football games.

But I will say this, he's up there with the greatest recruiters college football has ever seen. I think he likes recruiting more than he does the actual games.

Anyone think he's NOT lobbying for the permanent job?
