So I know the song was bounced around for a while until Garth brooks made it really famous in the 90s. Can any of the older fans tell me when they remembered LSU start playing this song and when it sort of became as big a deal as it is today in terms of it being our major pre game pump up song.

Thanks

Memory could be fuzzy but I can recall hearing it at the old Box in the 90's when it was still a fairly recent brooks recording. No idea about when it debuted in Tiger Stadium.

I definitely remember it being played in Tiger Stadium in 2009. That was the year Florida jumped on the eye while it was playing.

It's only been part of the pregame deal in Tiger Stadium for a few years. It's only been under Les, and probably only since about 2007.

In the last few years they've really solidified the several pregame songs and videos. There's that, Louisiana Saturday Night. The highlight video featuring Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, the one with Dan Borne "It is a pantheon of concrete and Steel"..., etc.

Now they just need to figure out when to play them all. The videos are usually at the most ridiculous times like when the team is running out of the tunnel and the band is trying to play.

Yeah...timing isn't always the best. Not sure why...it's not like the games aren't televised making nearly every movement pretty precise in terms of timing.

One thing I've always wished is that in addition to the videos they seem to play each week, they'd work up a game specific one featuring big plays against the team LSU is playing that week. This is obviously mostly for SEC games...but think of how cool it would be to have an AU or BAMA specific video before the game, or for Ole Miss, or Florida featuring plays from decades worth of games between the two programs?

This thread will sort of show who's in their seats way before kick off, btw...haha

I agree. The only time I think they did something similar was in the Fourth Quarter OUR QUARTER package against Ole Miss (?) they had an extended package with all of the big plays against Ole Miss from the past. I have to admit it was slick and perfect for that moment.

I'm pretty sure it goes back to about '99 or 2000.

it hasn't been played in the stadium that long. basically, younger fans were around when they started playing it in Tiger Stadium. I honestly think Saban was here when it started being played in TS

The 1st time it was played was Decmber 1st, 2001. The Auburn game was moved due to 9/11 and as most will remember it was a huge game (winner went to Atlanta). The game was delayed because of lightning so they began playing Lousiana Saturday Night and Calling Baton Rouge in the stadium. Really cool moment and the crowd was pumped.
