ummm what about Gus Malzahn? Guy took an auburn team that won 0 conference games the year before to a NC appearance and SEC championship with a db playing qb. Those programs sucked to begin with, the difference between all of those and LSU, is that we actually have the talent.

FWIW it took him like 6-7 years to make that team decent. What happens when his upperclassmen are gone and Prescott isn't there anymore?

Good question. But I think we can all agree he'd have had a better chance at early success at a place like LSU. MSU is no destination job.

I don't care how long it took him to get there.

he got freaking Mississippi State into the top 5.

think about that.

I never heard of him. And Okie St sure seemed relieved to see him go. Remember reading their message boards telling us to enjoy him, being sarcastic of course.

The best coach that would turn our annual Top 5 class into winners is.....DAVID SHAW!!!! Our next coach has to be an AFRICIAN-AMERICAN thats a proven leader of young men and I can promise you that DAVID SHAW would produce a championship product every year! If he can do it at Stanford with a bunch on smart white kids who have limited football ability just think what he could do with our talent!

Maybe

I guess I look at it like Florida. Got his once in a decade QB, stud defense, won a title, they graduated, team won 7 games and all the coaches bolted

Lets hear youre reasoning for knowing this so matter of factly.

Les has taken us from the top of the West to verly likely finishing last in the West. He has made zero changes to his philosophy and every coach in the league knows exactly what we are going to do before we do it. He's done, it's over.

We might make a bad hire next. We might make a great one. Recruiting will be the next to go if we don't make a change though. It gets really hard to turn a program around when the cupboard is bare

Yea, OP's point is that he can't personally think of anyone who could be the HC.

well it's not his or our jobs to. that's why you have an AD.

And I'd take Kirby Smart FWIW.

It's not a maybe. LSU dominates recruiting in LA. MSU competes with Sunbelt schools for kids.

what are you trying to say here?

Are you saying Urban was only successful because he recruited and coached up good players?

I've also seen USF and Rutgers in the top 10.

Miss St is the real deal this season. And I think Mullen is a decent coach. I'm just saying let's not act like he came in and turned the program around quickly. I think we can all agree the fans and administration expected a little more at this point than average seasons and December bowl games.

you're missing the point

which is that nobody knew who the frick Gus was before hiring him back

you are asking us to name a viable HC option and the point being made is that we don't know who those people are, because it's not our jobs to

I'm saying I saw this situation at Florida. Top 5 all time college QB left, team sucked, so did the coaches.

I'm just saying I'm curious to see how great Mullen is once his QB leaves is all.

I think you are reading too much in to it. It's not like he's dominated the SEC or even had decent season with the teams he's rolled out. Now he has a superstar at QB. Once he's gone, I expect MSU to be a 6-7 win team again

they weren't skull-fricking SEC teams and stealing LA QB prospects either. Mullen is doing this with a bottom feeder SEC school with virtually no selling point except for early playing time.

and nobody knew he was before he went to MSU

there are coaches out there

Pretty sure he was talking about your point that it's so unlikely a coach can come in and be better than a previously successful coach on the downswing after prior success. Maybe you should work on some reading comprehension before calling someone else stupid.

You are wither completely missing my point or refusing to acknowledge it so there's no reason to continue to debate with you

I think most just want Les to put a competent team on the field. We can deal with a loss now and then but when a HC is not putting his best players in positions for them to competent at their best according to their skills then it all falls on the HC. We are at mid season and with no improvement. I don't believe in firing him at this point because you don't know the outcome but his lack of willing to change is beyond me. Four times up the gut against MSU doesn't cut it Les and yes you could have called a TO. This shows lack of leadership on his part. No wonder all of his players leave of the NFL. They understand that he's not going to change or maybe he just doesn't know how. It all comes down to coaching!

Mullen has one of the best defenses in the country to go along with that QB too. He's a good coach and recruiter.

nobody ever expected or will expect MSU to dominate the SEC.
