The deep alleys help balance out the hitter-friendly areas down the lines. Got a rep as a HR/offensive park early on in large part because Astros pitchers had to adjust from the way they pitched in the Astrodome.

Fly-ball pitchers thrived in the Dome because the ball didn't carry as well as in other parks. The first year the Astros pitchers were in Enron Field (the original name of the park), they were shell-shocked in that the fly balls that were warning-track outs in the Dome were HRs in the new place, especially down the lines.

it pays hommage to left field incline at Crosley Field, Duffey's Cliff at Fenway, and the Ebbets Field terrace

at least its not as bad as the old goat hill at University of Texas old Clark Field (yes, a ball landing above that cliff was a playable ball!)

No player will be able to hit it that far.

Hitting weaknesses are exploited in A ball. If you can't hit x you get a chitpot full of x.

Was looking for a baseball thread to post a good Dellenger story.

A friend of mine works for the revielle and was at LSU baseball interviews today. Apparently, Dellenger had no idea that Minute Maid Park has funky dimensions.

"Wait, so there is a hill that's in play?

Dellenger stories always make me giggle

Minute Maid is what happens when you don't involve people who have played the game in designing the stadium. I'm sure there's a group of architects patting themselves on the back, though.

Let's pay homage to awful design by spending millions constructing an awful design. Probably Aggie architects.

I like irregular outfield dimensions and fence heights, and really wish the box was irregular shaped, but the hill and flagpole aren't necessary.
But I'm willing to bet that flagpole affects very few games in that ballparks lifetime.

But when it does, it will be so crazy and make ESPN's top plays that nigh!
