There never is an official "offer" unless the offered party accepts. No school was to get turned down so they talk an unofficial offer to test the potential hire's interest. This way all parties can deny or no comment.
Make no mistake, with regard to coaching offers, where there's smoke there is always a fire. Arkansas AD might not have officially "offered" the position to Miles, but A phone call asking his theoretical interest in the possiblility of coaching for Arkansas for 5yr/$27.5M probably happened.
In the end, Miles will get what he deserves. More money from LSU. It will either be for himself or for his assistants, but in the end, LSU will pay him and rightfully they should.
I've watched programs think 10-2, 9-3 wasn't good enough b/c they had gotten spoiled and they took a nosedive after they fired the coach. They still haven't recovered. The most recent example is Nebraska firing Frank Solich after a 9-3 season. He was 58-19 in 6 years at Nebraska. They let him go. They are 65-38 since he was let go. It happens. It happens to teams with national brands, good recruiting, and a rich dominant history of football. When you have a coach that year in and year out has you in position to win conference and national championships, you don't fire him or let him go to a rival. You pay him his money, and keep the juggernaut of a football program that is at the top of its game going. Newsflash, Miles has more 10-win seasons at LSU than total years his predecessor coached at LSU.

It must hurt to be this stupid
I doubt it. I've always thought it would be rather soothing.

Are people on here really thinking payton would even listen to LSU?
IF Payton is looking to leave the saints there are NFL positions available. When is the last time a Super Bowl winning head coach came down to college with no college experience? I don't think he has any, I may be mistaken.
I think I got trolled, I sure hope so. Otherwise some people are very dumb.

Why would they want a coach that runs a "boring" offense. They like a pass first run second offense at arkansas.

You realize we've had a really balanced offense under Petrino, right?
It was very close to exactly 50/50 in 2011

Ponanmsky tweeted yesterday that this is the same media that said Petrino would never be fired.

It was very close to exactly 50/50 in 2011. Not that CLM is going anywhere but CLM favors that power run game over a balanced attack! However, I must say that the passing game is tuning up very nicely for 2013, and with our line being as strong as it is, CLM stays at LSU and LSU wins it all next season! Btw we will beat the gumps by minimum 10 next season!

Gladius i do realize that but Miles offense is so run oriented i dont see the razorback boosters and fanbase liking that move.
IMO, Les isnt leaving LSU anytime in the near future.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation has informed me tonight that Arkansas athletic director has NOT made an offer to LSU head coach Les Miles.
A report from the website SportsByBrooks.com first reported a 5-year deal was on the table for Miles to become the head coach of the Razorbacks.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune claims they can confirm the information is true. According to Jim Kleinpeter, Miles has been offered 5-years and $27.5 million.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette told the Times-Picayune tonight, "It's been brought to Les' attention and he didn't have anything to say."
I can confirm, however, that Miles has not been offered the job, nor has he been approached by Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long.
Long expects to name a coach within the next 8-12 days.
This is false.

Even if they had,
NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING,
would be leaked or said UNTIL AFTER THE BOWL GAMES.

oh snap!
Eta: If you really think about it, Miles would fit exactly what Arkansas needs. Recruiting connections in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and the Midwest.
Give me another big name candidate who fits that criteria, ran a high level winning program, and is fairly clean in the eyes of the NCAA?
