Just curious if anyone on TD was at the 1959 Halloween game and actually watched the Billy Cannon punt return TD. Sadly I was not but my Dad was a student at LSU and was at the game.

If you were there, please share your memories.

Thanks!

I was a freshman that year, but long story (which I won't go into) I missed the game. Listened to it on radio at a Halloween party. One of the biggest mistakes of my life missing that game.

My grandparents were there and my grandmother's favorite story about the game was about the Ole Miss fan who kept asking her, "where's your Billy Cannon?" all night. During the return, Grandma tapped her on the shoulder and said, "there he goes right there!"

I believe at last count the official attendance was somewhere around 400,000, HA! No, I WASN'T there but remember listening with my Daddy as I did EVERY Saturday night for years. We were on Dorcheat Bayou in LA - lower Arkansas - fishing. I was only 10 but old enough to realize the Tigers won a thriller. Most people forget the ensuing goal line stand, once again led by Cannon, that helped immortalize the punt return. Also, the story about the "official" accompanying Cannon "all the way" is a big part of the legend of that Halloween night. He was an impostor coming off the sideline and appeared to go stride for stride with Cannon.
