My dad and three buddies went...left the 12 yr old (me) with mom and granny-gramps in Crowley. Laid in bed listening intently to the sound periodically interrupted by that time's inherent "static". Then it happened just as you hear it now on the replays, but somewhat clearer (at least my recollection). The 12 yr old (me) bounded from the bed busting lip on the door casing, ripping forearm open on the hinge-pin, finally landing facedown on floor. Medical treatment was wet towel 'til goal line stand at end of game, then to hospital for stitches. The forearm scar remains as a badge of glory!

At 68 remember it like yesterday! Dad brought the program home and I later had Cannon & Robinson sign it during their statewide tour stopping at my hometown. 'twas my 4th yr listening to LSU radio.

. Also, the story about the "official" accompanying Cannon "all the way" is a big part of the legend of that Halloween night. He was an impostor coming off the sideline and appeared to go stride for stride with Cannon.

Priceless!

Similarly, In '11 we brought two hog fans down to TS. After going down 14-0, "Carol" asked me..."Where is that little honey badger??". The words were not out of her mouth when it happened!.

Dad talks of how the LSU campus felt like an absolute morgue that Monday after losing to Tennessee. Apparently, there was some type of long Tennessee run (may have been an interception return), but the radio announcer (assuming Politz) was saying over and over "and Cannon is on the ground! Cannon is on the ground!

Not often used, as excuses were not common back in the day for bad (or unfortunate) referee calls. However, until about 4-5 yrs ago, I had a newspaper clipping saved from the following week's loss to TN. In that Knoxville ?? paper photo, cannon was digging for the goal line (2-pt conversion) with the ball tightly nestled in his left armpit 1/3 across the stripe. The photo had a caption, but can't remember...has anyone ever seen the photo I describe?

My parents were there. They often reminded me of that.
My mother saved the dress she wore to that game and called it her "Billy Cannon Dress".

Everybody old enough to remember the game claims to have been there. I figure there must have been 204,000 in the stadium.

That's when Tiger Stadium was bigger. :)

Good stories from all.
